I have to break this up into 2 posts because of the size of the pdf, but here's the "Ultimate Guide to Travel Web Sites" as published in CondeNast Traveler in March 2008. Hope this is helpful to some of you worrying about travel costs in 2009 and beyond.

here's part 2 of the document

...personally.... we know a friend of ours who lives in France is going to be getting married there in either summer/fall 2009 or spring 2010 (he just hasnt proposed yet but is planning to relatively soon), so we are going to start saving for that trip just after our august 2008 wedding. with the horrible exchange rates between the dollar and Euro, we figure better safe than sorry. better to save the money far in advance than find out that we started saving too late and then miss our dear friend's wedding.

I got around the same quote from my travel agent and I also think it is ridiculous to pay that for kids. My 3 nephews are coming with my sister and brother in law so for the flights and passports plus thier stay...they are paying a small fortune to see me get married. I feel guilty but they happy to be coming. I hope the flights dont go up much more!

Wow, I wish my gas was that cheap! It's a few cents shy of $5 per gallon here and I have to fill up my little car at least once a week (sometimes twice).

Thank goodness I carpool :)

Maybe they'll come up with some type of alternative fuel for planes that will either level out or drop the price.

I say tell your guests to book early! The flights are published no more than 330 days out (9-10 months). This might be a situation where it helps to book group travel. Our flights to Jamaica were between $468 and $522 each, depending on departure gate. We were able to get people from Louisville, Detroit, Philadelphia, and Kansas City under the same group contract because Northwest flies through each of those gates. Flights now start at $650 and go up.

I will still fly even if rates go up because for us it is sometimes cheaper than driving. (I know people can't drive to Hawaii.) For example, we have to go to KC for FBIL's wedding over Memorial Day weekend. For us to drive the full-size V8 truck we figured we would spend at least $325 in gas if not more. We were both able to fly Southwest for $270.
