They atleast have a prefered vendor list. For example, you can hire Claudia Rodriguez because she is on their photographer list. But, I don't understand why Dreams went to this policy too. I think it's unfortunate.

I agree. All places that do not allow outside vendors should be on the list.

Ladies, it is what it is. And I fully support the idea of a boycott. I really wanted to have my wedding at a Karisma resort but decided against it after an on-site visit and being exposed to their ridiculous policies.

I have several couples who are going to make a vacation out of our wedding and were looking to stay at another resort for two nights before joining the rest of our wedding party. I initially recommended EDR but after coming back from their resort I STRONGLY DISCOURAGED IT.

My guests have now decided to

just hang out at our hotel the entire time.

Such a shame because all of the Karisma resorts are amazing. I just can't patronize a company with such little respect for their guests.

Thanks for the boycott. It may not do much but I feel better about doing it.

I personally would not pick a resort for my DW or reccomend it to my friends if they did not allow me to bring who I want (which I am paying for myself) to make my day exactly the day I dreamed of. So, I totally think this boycott is a great idea and I think Tammy is a great TA for doing it and for looking out for of the brides on this forum by letting them know what is going on there. Great job Tammy.

My neighbour is doing a dw next Christmas, this was her original choice for a resort, after informing her of their vendor policies she has changed her mind and is now researching other resorts. If you Tammy hadn't created this thread, I would not have been aware of the policy and therefore been unable to inform my neighbour. I believe she will find another beautiful resort which has more respect for their customer, and the customers choices in regards to their wedding's. It is unfortunate since it looks like it is a beautiful resort.

It can't hurt for her to shot EDR a quick email & let them know why she is taking her business elsewhere.

So far, I believe everyone has been able to use their own photographer without a problem. Heidi just used Robin and while I was at the rsort I saw another photgrapher taking wedding pics. So I think this is more of a photographer trying to hold onto some business rather than a strict resort policy.
It seems like the most current ROR brides have come back without experiencing problems. It seems like a lot of talk (email) ahead of time... but turns out not to be an issue. I think it helps when the photog is a guest at the resort as well. Plus I beleive Heidi mentioned when she met w/ Chandyln that once her wedding was switched to the free package - Chandyln said Michael wouldn't even know about her wedding.

What if someone tried to bring in a local photographer? I think the way people get around it is by saying the photographer coming with them is a friend. It's not as bad as EDR because everyone has managed to get around it, but I still think they should change their policy. Maybe not as drastic as to consider a boycott.

When I was first looking for a dw resort my FI and I were really excited to book at EDR...we were pretty close to signing the contract but when we asked about their outside vendor policies etc... we decided this wasn't the palce for us. We wanted to have 100% control over our own wedding, after all we only get to do it once. I think that its important for us to come together and voice our displeasure with the resort's policies. If we don't then I agree that other resorts might pick up on the idea that this is acceptable, and implement similar policies themselves. I don't view this sticky as an attack on brides that have chosen EDR as their preferred dw resort, nor do I see it as an attack on those brides that in the future might choose it. I think this sticky is important (a)to inform brides about their policies because they might not be aware of them, and (b)to give a voice to those of us who are unhappy with them. The only way to get through to greedy businesses is hurt them where it matters...$$$$$.
