Anyone "Jumping the Broom"??

Recommended Posts

My FI and I are doing a Blessing of Hands ceremony. (found on the Web) Although I have to desensitize my FI before the wedding because he gets teary every time I try to get him to read through it so we can settle on our ceremony.

Originally I wanted to do the sand ceremony but when I talked to Canadian Customs they said that sand can't be transferred across the border and if they find it, they will take it. So I didn't want to chance something being taken away. I talked to him about 2 months ago and he said it was a newer law. Not sure if I just talked to the wrong custom's guy but I'd be curious if any Canadian brides have had any issues trying to bring their sand back into the country.

No I don't think it would be butting in at all! My FI really wants to do this

Bumping to find out more about those of you who jumped the broom at your ceremony. I mentioned somewhere else on the boards that my FI is black and I am white, so I'm pondering this whole jumping the broom thing. I think it would be a nice way to incorporate his culture, but I don't know if it would be almost offensive or something! He's a guy so he's like, What's the big deal? Umm, how about I risk offending your entire family?!

So, if anyone has advice or input on this subject, I'm all ears! TIA!

I photographed a wedding in Negril where the groom was African-American and the bride was definitely not!! :) And they jumped the broom. Nobody took any offense to it and it was a great way to incorporate something that was important to the groom.

Oh yes, and their broom was a tiny little thing that fit in a normal sized luggage.
