Anyone "Jumping the Broom"??

We did jump the broom. Although it was something I planned to do, I totally forgot the broom at home so I had to rely on the owner of our transportation company to find a broom for us. Luckily she found one & thats what we used. It wasn't decorated nicely like I would've preferred but since it was last minute I couldn't complain.

Another BDW bride who was at the same resort, had a wonderfully decorated broom which her aunt brought with her. I don't know how she did it. I guess she just checked it in, or maybe she carried it on.

I do know that when I was researching this there were brooms that were not as long as a typical broom, which would've made it "travel friendly".

Maybe you can ask your WC if there's someplace where you can get one near your resort so that you don't have to actually travel there with it.

Yes...I've seen this done at several weddings. Typically, the broom is a smaller broom that is decorative....you may be able to find one this time of year fairly easily.

I found a straw broom at Goodwill for $2 it is sooo nice! They also have them a Michaels.

I'm sticking mine in my suitcase, or you could even carry it on the plane, just a suggestion!

My FI and I are going to buy one at Michaels and decorate it ourselves. I plan on packing it in my luggage, it's not that large at all and my suitcase is mammoth.

The broom jumping and the sea shells are both amazing ideas. I think I will some how incorporate them both in my ceremony.

I would like to do the broom but FI said no but we are doing the sand ceremony but doing three colors..one for me, one for him and one for Christ. We found a ceremony for sand with Christ representation and the minister pouring the sand. Might have my dad do it instead.

I will def. be incorporating jumping the broom into our ceremony! That African tradition held fast across the ocean and into slavery times to today.

I didn't realize so many people were considering jumping the broom! Our marriage will be interracial (FI is black, I'm white) and I can't decide whether jumping the broom would be a nice incorporation of his culture or if I would be "butting in" where I don't belong. Thoughts??
