Why did you choose a DW?

Ever since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to get married on the beach.. I always thought this would be impossible, since my family is very religious and traditional.. Throughout our six year relationship, my fiance and I have been fortunate enough to travel all over the world.. So much of who we are as a couple is because of our many journeys together..

Last August, while we were at Secrets Maroma Beach, we saw a wedding taking place on the beach and we just both had that moment like "this is it..." You could just feel all the love and romance.. It was so intimate and beautiful..

So, even though we are going against tradition and family expectations, we just know this is how we want to begin our new life together..

JQLong, Meeshie,

I am sure u too heard about stories like an uncle gave $50, and brings his whole family to the wedding! Seriously..I don't mind to pay $25K for a wedding (and yes, that is what I am paying for mine in total, excluding my honeymoon in Asia), but I don't want to share a big dinner with a huge group of strangers.  I would rather to enjoy it with very close friends and family.

First of all prettypigpig LOL the freeloading guest with their kids and fat wife make me literally LOL

Now onto our decision to do a DW:

- I have always wanted to get married on a beach

- when we got engaged we were living in Halifax, I am originally from Toronto and FI is from Ottawa so no matter what we did people would be travelling so we decided why not all travel to a sunny paradise

- we wanted a low key, stress free (as much as possible) day that wasn't a "production" as J-me mentioned.

- we wanted each and everyone of our guests to feel special and involved.  Too often I have been to weddings where the couple doesn't even say hi or if they do it is in the receing line when they basically don't even know who they are talking to!

- we didn't care if it was just us or the 230 people (just family and close friends) that we invited either way it would be special and us

- Lastly... and I am surprised no one else has mentioned this but the PARTY! We love the idea that our wedding will be remembered as a week long party/vacation!!!

Oh and for the noobs... it is NOT necessarily cheaper. At least that has been my experience.  Even if you choose a destination wedding at an all inclusive... the wedding part is not generally ALL inclusive.  I know most of our guests think we are doing this to save money but in the end it is costing us about the same as if we were doing it at home.

SO if you are choosing a DW to save money... yes you can save some but in the end the difference is not as significant as you may think.  Just my experience!

Girl, I don't blame you for how you feel in the least bit!  No one wants to deal with nonsense on their special day.  And yes, I have heard the stories and witnessed a few as well.

I'm still a 'noob' but, I have always known a destination wedding was the way to go!  So, it was a no brainer for me.   Both my older brother and sister had destination weddings as well.

#1 reason-I get to celebrate with family and friends for a week in Mexico as opposed to one day in Denver.  It is going to mean so much to me to be able to actually spend time with my guests.  Not to mention the guests will be people that want to be there as opposed to coming out of obligation.

Even though we may not be saving a ton of money, the money we are spending will make our wedding more special in Mexico than at home.  And it's still cheaper.

I never wanted a 200 person wedding.  A destination wedding is the perfect way to help eliminate those un-wanted guests (hopefully!  HA!!!)

We get to get married in Paradise!

I chose a DW cause i new after the cost of planning at at home wedding that we would never be able to afford a honeymoon, also i dont really care for big weddings or alot of random ppl that we dont really know / never see so a DW gave us the chance to have a honeymoon / small wedding without feeling bad !!!....
