Hi ladies.

I thought this might be helpful for some of the Newbie brides :) Not sure if there is a post like this (I didn't see one) but my question is:

Why did you choose a destination wedding?  I thought it might be helpful for some of the Noob brides :)

Hi meeshie77....I guess I'll be the first to answer....My fiance and I chose a DW because we have been together for 3 years (will be 4 by the time we marry) and we have NEVER been on a true vacation.  I purchased my home about 4 years ago and as everyone knows the market went crazy.  Between work and my daughter ins chool and basketball and bills...and did I mention basketball?  We have not had the time nor money to go away.  Also, we began pricing venues shortly after we got engaged and got the sticker shock of having a wedding at home.  We both immediately agreed that going away would be the better option.  It also gives our families a chance to go away and have fun together.  Hopefully this will start a family tradition with all of use traveling together.....hmmmmm....let me get back to you on that last part....after my wedding!

I am a Concierge for a 5-star hotel and after years of working many high-end weddings, I KNEW when it was my time to get married, I didn't want the big 'to do.' Too many weekends, I've seen so many stressed out families (yes, more so the families over the bride even), 100s of guests that the bride/groom probably haven't spoken to in awhile, and overall just the sense of it being more a production than a true celebration of love, life, family & friends. Granted, I think I see an extreme, and I'm sure as I get closer to the date there will be different stressors as well, but I wanted to minimize it by doing a DW.

My FI and I love to travel, esp. to beaches, and are very laid back - so I don't think many of our friends/fam were surprised when we decided to go the DW route. Also, his family is from Kansas, mine from Texas so either way - SOMEONE's side would be getting on a plane, so we figured, why not fly to paradise?! :)

Inevitably, some of our closest friends/fam won't be able to go, but it's what we want to do, so whether we have 10 or 100 ppl there, I have no doubt it'll be the best day!! Plus, I have YET to hear of one DW bride that regretted it!

We had talked about getting married and we always thought it would be in Lake Tahoe where we met. After getting engaged and looking into weddings we realized aside from us and a few friends everyone would be traveling far. My family is on the east coast, his is here (CA), Hawaii, Australia and our friends from college are all over the country. They'd be spending a fortune to travel and stay and the weddings in Tahoe are outrageously priced! We also didn't want to cater to one side of the family. We looked at a map to see what places we knew of were exactly in the middle of California and NJ...it was either going to be Denver or somewhere on the west coast of MX. We'd been to Denver and it didn't hold any special meaning to us. So we said Puerto Vallarta sounds nice and they have all inclusives, perfect for our guests!!! We've never been there but since selecting it, we've heard nothing but good things. Can't wait to get there and see if it is really that nice.

my fiance said..if we get married...it'll be in jamaica..its the only MUST HAVE, he had so i was game!

jamaica has a special place in his heart..he loves the people, the land, the vibe and the food..we vacation there annually so it made sense that that would be our destination and i can't wait!!!

happy planning!!!

Ok, there are several reasons...

1) I am from Hong Kong, and my FI is from Belgium, we live in Montreal, Canada.  Therefore, we don't have a common hometown/home country anyway.

2) Cost control: the last thing we want is a 400 people wedding with some freeloaders (those who give u a toaster and bring 2 kids+a fat wife to the reception), some unrelated relatives, and people that I don't know. With $2000 per person as cost, only the SERIOUS friends/family members will come.

3) I want to marry on a beach and we don't have nice beaches in Montreal.

4) I want a romantic and intimate wedding

5) I don't like others' kids, so an Adult Only All Inclusive resort wedding is a nice way to hint...Don't BRING ur UGLY kids to my big DAY!
