WTH? Our AHR is not just some "party"!!!

Recommended Posts

My fiance and I have also not even sent out our STD's and already I would say 85% of my family has already insisted that they are not coming. I completely understand that the money may not be there-- however they haven't even asked when or how much.. It's like they aren't even trying to come.. I am the first one in my entire family to get married so you would think that more of an effort would be made..

My fiance and I were thinking about having an AHR, but we realized that if we did have one people would be even more less likely to come to our DW and think that the AHR was our *wedding celebration*. We decided that instead we just have a nice at home BBQ a few months following our DW-- hopefully we find a house with a yard:) LOL..

But to be honest, the only reason why I wanted to have one is because I felt bad for so much of my family not being able to come to our wedding; but now that I see how my family is behaving I am not sure I want to do anything at all.

Ack!  This is just the post for me.  My FH has a HUGE catholic family, so they've convinced me to throw an AHR when we get back from our DW in Italy.  Initially I didn't care to do it, but once I started planning all the stuff I wouldn't get to do with my DW, I got psyched.  And now the general un-enthusiasm has been seeping in from the family members--they all want to skip it because it's not the "real" wedding!  So, because you don't get to sit through a 7 1/2 minute ceremony, it isn't REAL??  My FMIL isn't even coming :(

That really sucks, but on the bright side the people who come will be the people who appreciate it and really are happy for you!! So what if they didn't get to be at your 'real' wedding!!  Good luck with everything!

I agree with the other posters, some people just don't understand DW's. It's unfortunate that some people don't see it the same way and they don't see that its about you and not them. But it's also a tough time in the economy so maybe thats an issue (you never know). In any case, I am sure you will have the ones that matter there and those that didn't attend will regret it later. I hope everything turns out well.
