How much do people actually pay to get in? This is very interesting to me...
We usually pay $10 per person, depending on the hall. If its a bigger and/or more expensive hall then we charge $15 ot $20 per person. And, you have to have some good prizes because there is a door prize, for everyone who paid to get in, and lots of raffle prizes (this makes a lot of money if you have good prizes donated to you). We also make a lot of money off Jello shooters, charge $1 each and everyone buys them and you make lots of money off the. There are so many things we do. lol

Honestly, I think asking to be invited can be good intentioned. Until you've planned a wedding, you probably wouldnt understand why someone wouldnt want more guest. Typical parties are the more the merrier. It does make it so different when each guest adds more expense, but I don't think they are thinking about that. I really don't think they just want a free meal. I also think sometimes they are just curious. They want to put it on their calendar & plan for it. I feel like I start planning for weddings long before I get the invite. Especially in the summer when weekends book up quick.

Ditto what everyone else said about not feeling pressured to invite them if you weren't originally.

Same thing happened to me. Everyone and their mother started to think they were invited and prettymuch just invited themselves. My friend's PARENTS who I don't really care for invited themselves.

I just told everyone very politely that the wedding was super small, and there was limited space at the reception anyway (which there was... kinda!). Don't worry about it.

this is why we did a DW...we had an AHR with 200 people but even that we had to not invite alot of people.

i say, invite who you want and what your budget allows...i dont know why people want to go to other peoples weddings that they arent friends with...i think it is so weird. i hate when i get invited to weddings of acquaintances. i would rather just send a gift and not go....half the time you dont even get to see or spend any time with B & G and are sitting at the random tble with a bunch of strangers in the back since you arent that close.

I just need to jump on this Buck and Doe thing...ummm why don't we do that here! Maybe we should start a trend. I have never heard of it!

I think it is tacky of people to invite themselves to your wedding. It is just as bad as inviting themselves over to dinner at your house so you can feed their lazy butts.

OK look at all that I missed being gone.lol

Honestly I just assumed that americans had buck and does too! They are so great! At my sisters it was $10 a ticket tons of free food and cheap drinks (like 2 bucks a drink) plus we have a $10 buy in poker game and winner takes 50/50. We also had rafels for Toronto Maple Leafs tickets and Toronto Raptors tickets. Its just a fun night to party and make a bit of money. I think Ill invite these guys to this party and if they all come then Ill send a wedding invite to them.

Julie, we will probablly have it in Alcona at the ABC Hall. My sister had hers there. ITs really cheap and her best friends hubbys grandparents (blablabla) get a deal on it! Now if I invite you to this do you get a wedding invite too? LOL
