People asking to be invited

Recommended Posts

Some of them can get out of control though....we got invited to one for a guy we work with...tickets were $60 per person...and it didn't even include a meal or even one free drink!!

Although there was a raffle for a trip to Vegas....but still....we didn't even get invited to the wedding and they were asking us to buy tickets to their ridiculously priced B&D!

GET OUT!!! You mean, there's a set cover charge to this party, and not just a donation jar at the door?

I'm telling ya, I need to be a Mexican-Canadian in my next life---- between padrinos/padrinas and B&D's, my next wedding would be pretty cush!
hehehe....

I have never ever been to one that charges that much money. The most I ever paid was $20 and there was always food. Never a free drink though, unless its non-alcoholic, but always food.

I would not pay $60 to go, no way. Especially if I was not going to the wedding.

I wouldn't invite them. Easier said than done I know. But still if you really wanted them there, you would have invited them. I still don't get how people can ask to be invited or say "I better be invited when the time for your big day comes around."

Here's my take:

1. May I sleep with your husband?
2. Have you gained weight?
3. Is your acne acting up again?
4. Are you pregnant? You look like you have gained some weight.
5. Are you inviting me to your wedding?

All of the above are rude and tacky things to say to people, and I till this day do not understand how people still have the audacity to make these rude comments. I mean seriously people need to get some tact.
Glenda, you are so funny!! I totally agree....

It is a good tradition to have. I think its also relatively new. I know that older people, like in there 50's and up, think its a terrible idea. But, they are also the ones who got their wedding paid for by their parents. If the parents are paying for the wedding, we do not do the buck and doe (also called a Jack and Jill or Stag and Doe). Its just to help a couple who is paying for their own wedding. It can raise a lot of money as well. My friend just had one (the bridal party hosts it) and they raised $4000 for her wedding. That is a good amount of money, I know we could all use it. lol

Oh yeah I agree with you, the money would be a godsend. I think it is cool that you have that tradition for sure, I just know here (because it's not tradition) people would be so against it, like the older generation where you are. Some of our friends may go to be nice, but my own parents would probably say no. . . lol I support any way you can party and get free money pinkie.gif

Tami, We are doing the same thing. We have a couple people who have not even acknowledged our STD or that we are engaged (needless to say these are people we were forced to invite), and we also asked for tentative RSVPs. So we're not sending them invites, since they obviously don't care and aren't excited for us.

I also had a childhood friend IM me and say, "Am I invited to the wedding? I mean, I'm 99% sure I can't come because of work and school, but it's the thought that counts." Ouch! I mean, I'll invite her because I had been thinking about whether I should invite her, but since we talk about 2 times a year on IM, didn't really think that qualified as close friend. I have told others though that we are having a small wedding with close friends and family.

Don't be pressured into inviting people...esp. if you can't afford it! Sounds like you have a big group that wants to come too, and that's overwhelming. Good luck!

Laura, You better invite me or else. lol Just say no. Tell them its a small intimate ceremony of just close friends and family and you would love to invite them, but are sorry.

Still invite them to the buck and doe, everyone goes to that, not just people coming to the wedding, so do not worry about that at all.

FYI, when you are planning your B&D, have your MOH email me, I know all the cheap halls in Barrie, I had to research it for my sister's B&D.
I'm really surprised that Wisconsinites haven't started doing that yet! We're practically Canada wink.gif
How much do people actually pay to get in? This is very interesting to me...
