Workout video suggestions???

Recommended Posts

Maybe some of you are in similar situations or have similar body types and have found something that works for YOU...please pass on your wisdom :)

Here's what I need help in finding:

(1) I'm a Mom...so, I have limited time to work out each day, & would like to tone up my stomach, thighs, butt, arms, the whole she-bang!

(2) I'm looking to lose 10 lbs., mostly I'd like to TONE everything up though!

(3) Something that incorporates cardio with strength-training AND stretching all in one would be ideal

(4) Decent cost...I am not looking to shell out big bucks, just something I may find at Target/Wal-Mart or order online for an honest price

(5) Something that works somewhat fast...I only have 5 months left & I wanna be able to prance around in my bikini all day long if I so chose :) LOL

Of course, I know OF the different types of workouts available but I want to know which ones work from YOUR personal experience. The fitness and diet industry are well known for having a lot of phony crap everywhere, so I would rather skip the part where I get ripped off to the part where I get a ripped bod! :)

Thanks in advance, ladies!! :)

From Target: Any of the workouts from "The Firm" are really great, I enjoyed the fat blasting cardio. It is about an hours, and combines cardio with strength training.

For a really intense workout, def P90X

I've recently become a Jillian Michaels fan & find her video's very helpful with cardio & toning. I use the 30 day Shred & No More Trouble Zones.

I really like the fact that she is constantly moving in the videos & that she combines cardio & strength.

I don't use them as much as I should but I can tell you that my cardio has definitely improved with both of those workouts!

As in the thread below, if you subscribe to On Demand with your cable company, check to see if you can find the No More Trouble Zones workout that way you won't have to buy the video.

Here are 2 threads that discuss both:

P90x is a good, tough workout program. It is a little on the expensive side and requires a lot of time (it consists of about 1 hour workouts 6 days/wk). It also requires dumbbells and bands (or a pull up bar in place of bands). I haven't tried 10 minute trainer, but it sounds like it would save time. I have also done Jillian Michael's 30 day Shred and thought it was pretty good. It is available at target and requires small dumbbells. It is pretty cheap and involves a quick workout daily (I think 20-30 minutes...it has been a while since I have done it) that hits strength and some cardio. Good luck deciding. I am sure others have good suggestions as well.

Same advice as the other girls - p90x is great if you can devote an hour a day, 6 days a week. I've already seen results in a week...it is crazy intense though.

Another good one - if you don't have a lot of time is Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred...it is 20 minutes a day

That p90x sounds like it has the intensity I am looking for, but to be completely honest I don't think I could commit to one hour/day 6 days a week. Although, I am a stay-at-home Mom my rambunctious 1-year-old is a super active baby who thrives on attention most of her days. Add schoolwork & keeping up with my reading assignments each day into the equation, along with my household chores & I am left with little time to myself! Plus, DF gets home at 5:30 & he craves my attention during the evening hours...he's much like our 1-year-old...haha wink.gif

I appreciate all the suggestions :)...is there anything out there around 30 minutes that is high-intensity. I won't have trouble keeping up, but I need something challenging but not too time-consuming. Thanks in advance, ladies :)

I don't have any recommendations for a specific 30 minute workout, but if you go with any of those already suggested, since you have time constraints why not just do as much as you can do in the 30 minute time frame that you have & then pick up where you left off on the next day.
For instance, since Jillian Michaels workouts are done in level's, you can see if you can do 1 level or part of a level in 30 minutes. And since she combines cardio & strength you'll definitely get a mix of both in a 30 minute span. Also trust me, she is intense. If level 1 doesn't do it for you then you can move to level 2, then 3.
So really, you're customizing any workout to fit your schedule. KWIM?

I agree totally go for P90X. Time permitted or not...just do what you can and if it's only half a workout so be it! There's a 10 minutes AB RIPPER on P90x and trust me if that's all the time you've got on a busy day then that workout will get you results in your midsection quick!

On days when you have more time do the full workout. I train bootcamp style and this workout is the only thing that has even come remotely close in a DVD set.

Yep - P90X. I find it very hard to find the full hour so sometimes I skip out on the "bonus" rounds. I have had major results 22 pounds lost and really nice tone in 90 days. Also, I only do it about 4-5 times a week. Simply don't have the time for everything, but it really does work. Good luck and check out the work out threads for some motivation when you start working out :)
