I wanted short in the beginning, but found a long one for the DW. And went short for the legal ceremony in Vegas. I'm at work so I can't post pics, but this is the short dress (minus the god awful belt). I got it on sale for $100. Think outside the box for the short dresses because places like Nordstroms had some fabulous white dresses and you can return them if you change your mind!

A girlfriend of mine got married in the Sedona Red Rocks and wore this short white dress. It was knee length on her and looked adorable!

ooh I love short dresses! Before we decided on a DW we considered a hometown garden wedding... and if we had done that, I definitely would have chosen a short dress! When we decided on a beach wedding, I was more drawn to full-length gowns for that setting.

However, I do think a short dress would be amazing for a casual beach event. If you're into the 50's style tea-length, Candy Anthony makes amazing gowns, though pricey. Dolly Couture is a more affordable option, though the fabrics are synthetic. Priscilla of Boston also makes gorgeous short gowns.

I'm rocking a short dress for the wedding. I knew right away I wanted a short dress. I picked it out online, went and tried it on, (I tried a few long dresses as well) but for a destination wedding I just personally wanted a short dress.

I tried it on and it was perfect so I bought it!

Since a DW is not traditional I did not feel the need at all to have a traditional long dress. That's just me though!

Like many others, I originally wanted a tea length (or shorter) dress and I actually have a bunch of pictures and things I've saved from my research; if you give me your email address I can send them to you.

Alfred Angelo had some beautiful ones. The main problem was, most designers try to over-compensate for the informality of the short dress with lots of extra beads and stuff, and sometimes this doesn't show up in the internet pictures. When I went into stores to try them on, I didn't like them as much because it felt too sparkly for my beach wedding. I ended up choosing a longer dress but it is form-fitting without a train

Jenn, I love this dress. Who makes it? I don't know what your concerns are about pulling it off. You say you're a simple girl, so you're not looking at dresses with lots of beadwork and elaborate detail. I think this is a stunning, hot wonderful dress. You should try to find it and try it on.

That's a dress by BCBG Max Azira. I couldn't find out where it would be sold. I do love it and if anyone finds it I'd love to know where!! (Maybe as a reception dress!!!!)

I went shopping and found THE dress for me. Turns out, like some of you smart women suggested, when I tried on the right long dress, I loved it. I tried on some short dresses, but they looked terrible on me. I found the same problem as Aqua32marine, they were overcompensating on beads and glitz, which took away from the carefree look I wanted. So I went with Venus gown, I'll post some pics later, with a simple look that accentuates the right features in the right way! I didn't know a wedding dress could make you look thinner, I always thought the opposite!!

For all you short-dress girls, good luck.
