Tan Lines don't go with the dress! Eek, gasp!

I agree! This is the way I went -- high SPF and staying in the shade. I was a bit paler than I'd wanted, but it probably looked better than tan lines would have. I had a dress with a deep V front and back, so even strapless tops were out for me.

Seems like we're all in the same boat! I don't have a strapless dress, but the straps on mine are quite thin. And I definitely do NOT want tan lines! I've paid a whole lot of money for my photog and I don't want to ruin the pics with tan lines, LOL. So, all along I'd planned to buy a strapless bikini but the problem is that I've got sizable girls. Strapless just does not work. Plus, I have a hard time throwing down money on a bikini I'm only going to wear for 3 days of my life! After trying on a few I just threw that idea out the window. My new plan has been: lots of tanning bed sessions, lots of strapless dresses and tubetops that I can wear with a strapless bra for the days leading up to the wedding, and tucking in my bathing suit straps whenever I can. Fingers crossed!

Take a box of baking soda, and use something like a washcloth or a soft bath sponge to buff with. You can either apply the baking soda (dampened with water) directly, or put it on the sponge. Then gently scrub in circles, rinse, and scrub again until you get it down to the shade you want. (Be aware this is also a method for removing the color entirely, but that usually takes three or four good scrub downs. Do it gradually to make sure you don't wind up washing off too much!)

i'm only a C-D and have a hard enough time feeling like i'm not falling out of the little bikini tops! i haven't thought a ton about tan lines showing with my dress but it's crossed my mind.

 

i leave for mexico in about 5 weeks and i just went tanning for the second time last night. i am quite fair-skinned, so i need to slowly work up to any semblance of a tan. we arrive on wednesday afternoon and have the wedding on saturday, so i'm not thinking i'll get a ton of color once we're there. i just plan to undo the straps while lying on the beach and i should be good to go. sunscreen is key, otherwise i'll fry to a crisp even with the tanning ahead of time. lobsters don't make pretty brides...

I never heard of this but I going to test it out this summer. I am going to try and get the right tan for my October wedding over the summer and just hit the tanning booths in Sept/Oct keep the tan.

This thread has made me super glad that I bought a halter-style wedding dress. Honestly, I didn't even THINK about tan lines when I went shopping, but now I'm realizing it won't really matter. I too plan on building up a base tan before I go, but I know I'll burn a little anyway (even though I try to be good about the sunscreen). I'm just Pale McPalerson all the time.

I plan on virtually staying out of the sun before my wedding, but thats only 2 days.. so no big deal! The baking soda trick is interesting though, gotta say!!

I've seen this thread but never posted because I didn't think it affected me -- until yesterday morning when I woke up, sat straight up in bed and realized "omg, I'm going to have different tan lines than my dress" So yeah - here I am now scanning over the last 4 pages, wondering how I'm going to manage my tan lines for the week I'm there before the wedding!

My front will be fine - but the back will be difficult.

Good luck! I'd say try the baking soda trick. Staying out of the sun for an entire week just isn't going to happen...that'd be no fun at all!

Turns out that for me it was pouring rain every day leading up to the wedding, so it wasn't an issue. But as soon as the sun came out I got tan lines after just one day of being in the sun. So much for all my tanning sessions!
