And I agree wholeheartedly. My ring DEFINITELY didn't cost what most would tell you an engagement ring should, but it was the ring I wanted. I walked past the rings that were thousands of dollars because they didn't catch my eye, even the ones in the high hundreds didn't do anything for me, but I saw my ring, before I saw the price, and said "That one". And was it "cheap"? Yes. But would I trade it for the world? Not a chance. I had a fuss a while ago because I thought the jewellery store had faded the stones (It's pink topaz, no diamonds, I hate them

), but once that got cleared away and it was sent away, no cost to me, to be fixed and re-plated, I fell in love with it all over again as soon as I got it back. Plus, we didn't have to put ourselves in the hole for it and were able to walk in and pay cash

And THAT, is a good feeling!

we are both savers. we wouldn't have had to go into debt for an expensive ring, but it's not something I value. I asked him not to spend over $500, but he spent $700. It's a moissanite, not a diamond. I love my ring. I don't bother having insurance on it since it's not that expensive, so that saves us money each year.

investing $2,000 at 8% interest is over $40,000 at retirement.

add in the $100 per year we would have spent on insurance & it's over $66,000.

plus there is the piece of mind having that money in the bank throughout of lives.

my friend lived in london for a year with a 1 carat ring. she got the same reaction from people.
