I have a pair of spanx, they are wonderful for smoothing things out!!! =) I wore them to a wedding and they looked wonderful! However they were too long for the dress I wore, I ended up folding them to make them shorted. They went to my mid calf! Another thing is it may be way to hot in mexico to wear them! good luck! =)

Target also has a genric brand of Spanx. I think they are called...Assetshuh.gif? Target's brand is about 1/2 the cost and works just as well.
Yes, they're called ASSETS but they aren't generic - they are designed by the same woman who created Spanx. The ASSETS are about $20 a pair for the equivalent of Spanx high rise body smoother. (The Spanx ones cost $30 for the power panties and $36 for higher power, the high rise boddy smoother is like $68 i think)

Here's my little trick to making the spanx more comfortable, yet still effective -- I buy one size up from what the chart tells me to. It still does a great job of holding me in and I can still breathe and am not uncomfortable. Buying them one size up also shouldnt cause rolling or cutting off circulation in your legs because theyre too tight. I am wearing them under my wedding dress for sure (both for my legal day next week and for my big DW in 4 weeks). I will say... I own both Assets and Spanx, and I can tell a difference that the Spanx work slightly better than the Assets. that being said, the assets work well enough for me under most of my daytime dresses that im actually heading to target today to pick up another pair to take with me on my honeymoon. i have never had a problem with the assets rolling at all and i buy them according to the chart on the package, so i wear #2s.

Just a word to the wise after my first Assets experience. DEFINITELY by them the next size smaller than you think you need. I went by the chart on back and ended up not benefitting from them at all...they didn't do more than your average NON control top pantyhose, but I could tell if they were just tighter, it would have been fine.

Spanx ROCK!!! Do not buy the other brands they roll up on you it is worth the extra $ for the real thing. Nordstrom sells them if anyone is looking for them...FYI I am in the fashion business and in the next year you will start see spanx sewed into dresses and pants

  • 2 weeks later...

Has anyone tried the ones that are just underwear and come up your tummy about half way? I think I can be in pretty good shape by the wedding day but I want to eat, drink and be merry and not suck my stomach in all night at the reception. I wonder if those are enough coverage?

I used those after I had both of my kids and they worked great for me. Sucks in everything. I also used them when I had my period too when I felt a little bloaded.

ok one girl said buy a size bigger and one said definitely buy a size smaller ... guess i should just buy my size? i've never tried spanx but have worn similar a similar thing before and my problem was that the thighs cut into my legs or rolled up my thigh. i've always ended up having to take them off halfway thru the night.

i will definitely wear them during ceremony & pictures, but then i'm letting it all hang out at the reception! haha

I've seen them at The Bay and in Kiosks at the mall as well. I don't like them; the one I bought rolls down my stomach.
