I completely agree, hamster627!

As I plan to officially book in the next few weeks, I have begun to think about how to address this very topic and I think I will be including a letter similar to the one posted by S2BLennon, since it touches on pretty much everything I want to convey.

This is what we have... We are doing boarding pass STD, and it is an entire pass attached.

We are exchanging vows in a tropical paradise, under the sun, with the turquoise sea as our backdrop and white sand beneath our feet. While we would be honoured to have you share this special day with us, we certainly understand that it may not be a reality for some, and we know that your thoughts and well-wishes will be with us. We are also planning an at-home reception upon our return, and would love to see you then. We hope that you are able to mark your calendars for our dream wedding!

Our save the dates were very simple, no real extra words there.   So on the STD it linked to the website and in our welcome letter we wrote:

Our save the dates have two intentions, one, to advise you on when and where our wedding will take place, and two so we can find out who will be joining us. We understand time and money will be deciding factors, and while we would love to have you all there, are completely understanding if you cannot attend. Please RSVP with a yes, no or maybe, and we will be sending formal invitations as well as more information to those who RSVP yes, or maybe.

So far I haven't had anyone with negative feedback at all, so I think it went over ok!
