HELP: What's the process to release lanterns in Cancun, Mexico for our wedding?

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow BDW brides!

HELP PLEASE!

I have a question for those of you that got married in Mexico or are getting married in Mexico.

We are to be wed in Cancun next year and we wanted to release a single floating lantern to the sky at night during our reception. Our resort (Gran Caribe Real) has been giving me the run around by first saying that they are an eco friendly hotel and can't do it (however the lantern is biodegradeable). And then the manager said it would be possible during a webinar that was held with them. So I went back to our WC and she said it's possible but we have to obtain a $300 permit from the Mexican government in order to do so because the Yucatan penninsula is a protected area, etc.

At this point I am not sure what to believe and I have seen other brides who got married in Mexico do this. So I wanted to hear from you guys to see if anyone has had this experience.

We really want to release a lantern! So your feedback/help would be greatly appreciated :)

Recent Gran Caribe brides...can you provide updates on this topic?

Hey ladies,

Pretty much got shot down for this request. BEcause they are an environmentally conscious hotel, they do not want to do it. They are also concerned with it being a fire hazard. I understood. I wouldn't want to burn down anything either if it fell on the wrong side and not in the ocean.
