Step Parents Wedding Gifts?

Recommended Posts

Too funny, I read this and LOL, I've got a wicked stepmom too!

I'm not getting her anything!

I wasn't planning on getting our step parents anything anyway, except my stepdad.

It is pretty comical!!!  If I don't, she will literally throw a fit about it!  She does so much so now that when it comes to her b-day, etc...my Dad can't stand hearing it anymore and tells us WE HAVE to get her something just so he doesn't have to hear it!  I don't feel like dealing with her.  We had flowers delivered to her for her b-day last year and a few days later my sibs and I had a fight with her and she told ME to "shove those piddly little flowers me and my siblings got her up my a$$" HAHAHA!!!  Nightmare and now you can imagine why I don't have any desire to spend another dime on her, but it's worth it to keep her quiet!!!

yikes i feel for ya! On another note I need gift ideas also for my step dad. I am not close at all with my real dad ( Haven't seen him since I was 3) so my step-dad will be walking me down the aisle. The problem is he isn't very sappy or emotional, so it's tough.

Does he have any hobbies that you could incorporate into his gift?

My step dad is an avid Golfer so I may be getting him something to do with that.

The rest of our parents will probably be getting personalized hankies.

My husband's step-dad is the only father figure in his life. So we didn't have the problem of avoiding sentimental gifts. However, he is THE MOST difficult person for gift-giving! He's very laid back; you could even say apathetic. So he doesn't have many preferences. And he doesn't see the point in luxury or non-essential/useful gifts. (For example... He likes oldies. I gave him a $50 iTunes gift card once, and his response was, "Oh... why do I need this when I can download songs for free from Limewire?" Not even an insincere, "Thank you.")

Anyway, for our wedding gift to him, we fave him a Leatherman multi-tool (it's basically a pocket knife on steroids). He works with his hands, so he LOVED it! Here are some other gifts that I've given him in the past that he's actually liked (unlike the iTunes gift card):

  • tickets to sporting events for sports that he likes (baseball and bowling... he likes football too, but I haven't gotten him football tickets yet)
  • subscription to a bowling magazine
  • steaks from Omaha steaks
  • gourmet steak rubs for grilling
  • polo-style shirts
  • button down shirts
  • a photograph printer (he likes to take pictures and touch them up on his computer)
  • gift certificate to a Dominican restaurant (he was born in the Dominican Republic)
  • board shorts and a beach towel

As for the step-mom... I think you can't go wrong with jewelry. It's wedding-appropriate and, even though it's a nice gift, it's not necessarily super-personal. Stella & Dot has some pieces that aren't too expensive, but look substantial.
