CALLING ALL UNIQUE IDEAS INCORPORATING JAMAICA INTO MY WEDDING

Recommended Posts

I have been battling the idea of favors. I am doing great Oot bags and originally thought favors at the actual reception would just be too much. I am now having second thoughts. I am asking all of my guests to take time off from work and fly hours away for me so I think they also deserve a favor!!

I am really trying to incorporate "Jamaica" into my wedding. Jamaica is known for Reggae, Their Language, Jerk, and Rum. I really would like to have one of these items represented as my wedding favor but in an elegant manner and I am absolutely stumped with no ideas at all. I know nips of rum could be tasteful but I really don't want to do that as we are staying at an all-inclusive resort and I really want something that is more elegant like........ SO PLEASE BRING ON ALL OF YOUR GREAT IDEAS!! There are many unique and wonderful women on this website and you have all helped greatly in the beginning stages of my planning!!! Please help some more!!! Can't wait to hear what you all have to say!!

I am also getting married in Jamaica and thought about the rum idea too, but didn't see the point in spending money on it if the resort was all-inclusive. I think the type of favor somewhat depends on how many people you plan on coming to the resort. I you have a large group (50+) you may want a smaller favor, as it would add up to have something larger. I have a small group (10-15), so I may spend a little more per favor since I won't need that many. I have thought about small boxes of rum cake for each couple, as I think you can't go to Jamaica without experiencing rum cake! From reading the posts on BDW, I have seen that some brides give jerk seasoning for guests to take home to re-create the taste of Jamaica. My family likes to party so I also thought of getting each guest a Jamaican dred-lock hat. I'm sure everyone would wear them at some point in the vacation, just to have fun. I hope you get a lot of feedback and that it helps you with your planning!!!

At first we weren't going to do any favors at all, but I to thought that these people are travelling all the way to come to our wedding so we should get them something.  We finally decided to go with bottle openers.  We didn't personalize them or anything that way people may keep them.  We also went with ones that were quick heavy duty and not cheap, but we have less then 20 guests.  As to pertaining to something Jamaican we are going to use authentic Jamaican postcards to make our guestbook.

Blue Mountain Coffee is an option, Appleton Rum, Jerk Seasoning.  Could do a CD of Jamaican music for your guests.  We only had 7 guests so we did cheap mp3 players loaded with music in oot bags.  We didn't do favors, everything was in the bag on arrival.

We used red stripe light bottles (they are clear instead of brown) for our individual "vases" for the sand ceremony... we only had to bring the one vase!!  It was a cute nod to the Jamaican culture.

Jamaica is known for its wood carving. Perhaps you can give small wood carvings, like sea turtles, starfish, crocodiles -- which you can purchase from wood carving shops along Negril beach. They would also make nice table decorations. We're looking into this, but it may be costly depending on the number of guests.

We are planning to do the coffee, rum and jerk seasoning in our welcome bags... along with some other items.  This allows our guests to take the taste of Jamaica home with them.  Since our guests will get the loaded down welcome bags, I was thinking of just doing star fish bottle openers with the place cards as a little favor at the wedding.

We're getting pricing right now from a woodcarver who has a little shop at a hotel on Negril beach. Not sure how long it'll take, but I can definitely share the price list with you.

Love this! We found LED shot glasses!!!  Which I am thinking would be fun.

Also for our guest book we are doing the whiteboard for people to write a message on to hold up for a camera on a tripod. We are also going to have a few silly props for people to use to make it a little fun! That way people can do multiple messages with different people.
