DW Etiquette Help!

Recommended Posts

We just decided to do a destination wedding at the beginning of November. Due to the short timeline, we have let everyone know the details by phone and email and people have already started booking. Do I still need to send out formal invitations? I want to send something!  Any other suggestions to add a "traditional" touch?

I would definitely send something out...a lot of people here do Passport Invitations -- I just made my own to give a formal invite, tell people about the resort, and give information on how to book (if they haven't already).  That might be nice!

Here is mine...I made mine on my own with a template, but you can have them made by companies too.

Or you could do pocket invites..

I agree - invites add a nice formal and traditional touch to what are normally more informal and untraditional weddings. And especially since you *want* to send invites, why not??

I made my invites too since I'm kinda crafty and love that sorta thing. If you wanted a cross between making your own and getting them printed professionally, go to Michael's or another big craft store. They have a whole wedding DIY section with preprinted wedding invites - all you need is a printer to type the details into :)

Those are so cute! With all the information we are going to have to provide to guests about the trip (travel agent info, resort info, things to do, etc) I think this is a great way to give everyone the information. We were going to do regular invites, and my fiance wanted to include an additional letter with the travel information, and to let people know we understand if they cant make it since it is costly (that we will also be having a reception at home once we return). This is a great way to organize it all in one!

If you want to send out invitations then go ahead!  For ours we don't really need to since everyone is booked they're obviously coming but it will also be nice to have as a keepsake.  I made ours myself since I have a lot of scrapbooking stuff anyway.

You could also send out a trip brochure a few weeks before you leave, lots of girls on here have great ones...and I've been getting emails every day this week that you can get 25 free at vistaprint right now.  Not exactly a regular wedding tradition but seems to be pretty popular for DWs!

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm doing a passport invite even though most people will have already booked by the time they get them.  It just feels weird to not send out invitations, even though its really a formality at this point.

The good thing is that since its a destination wedding there is a lot of other information that can be sent to people as well (resort info, etc) so sending out an invitation with that info on it would never seem out of place.
