Hi Everyone,

It's my first time logging on to Best Destination Weddings... but I'm a long time creeper. We don't have a wedding date set yet, but I am interested in finding out more information on the Catholic Ceremony at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun.

Tara!

I just booked the Moon Palace today for April of next year. We are planning on doing a catholic ceremony. They haven't told us any of the requirments yet but from what I have googled you have to get some paperwork for your parish. i think the chapel is the prettiest gazebo at MP and. In my opinion, the pews make it look really beautiful.

I am having a Catholic wedding at MP as well. In fact I am doing the Pre-Cana at my local parish this weekend. You then have to provide the priest in Mexico with the paper work that you completed this.

One thing to note with the Catholic wedding in Mexico, it is not a legal ceremony. You have to be married legally prior in your home country and bring the paperwork with you in order to have the Catholic wedding. Otherwise the priest will not marry you. We checked to see if we could do the legal part later and the answer was no. You need to be married before to even have the ceremony.

Hi Everyone! Thanks for the input -- I don't know what any of us would do without this website!

alison15 - that's very interesting about having to be married legally before you go down to Mexico... I had no idea! How are you guys doing it? By your parish preist or by a JP?

Darksparkles, I guess it depends on availability and how our priest feels about the wedding down there. We have pre-cana this weekend so I guess we will find out. I don't want the wedding down there to just be symbolic so if it could count as our real Catholic wedding since it won't be our legal one then we will just go to a JP. Or it may just be easier to have our priest do it the weekend before.

I joked with my FI that this way we have two anniversaries so if he misses the first one, he can try to remember the second one.

You can get married legally at MP before you have a Catholic ceremony.  It's just an option if you didnt want to have two weddind dates.  We were going to have a Catholic wedding but we picked a date you aren't allowed to.  There is just more paperwork involved.
