Question for those that have done DIY invites.....

So I have been shopping around and I'm seriously considering making my own invites. I really like the pocketfold style but they just seem much too expensive to have professionally done. So I have figured out that I can buy all the paper for less than $250 (for 115 invites) and I can handle the printing and assembly on my own.

 

So here's my question....my invite will have a mat backing, so I'll need to glue the invite to the mat, and then the mat to the pocketfold (or vice versa). But I'm really concerned about making sure the invite and the mat backing are glued on straight so everything looks neat and professional. For those of you that have done your own invites, how hard was it to make sure the invite was glued on straight and wasn't crooked or sloppy looking? Do you have any helpful hints/tricks?

I'm not sure about how to make sure everything's straight, but I do recommend you buy double-sided tape! That stuff is the BOMB for making your DIY invites etc look very professional... and no mess to clean up:-)

 

You should be able to get it at any crafts/art supply type store...

Have you seen the double sided tape rollers? You can get them at any craft store. They are much easier to use than glue. I did half of my invites with glue & it wasn't fun. Then I bought one of those tape rollers & it was a breeze.

 

if you ahve to cut anything, get a paper cutter to keep it straight. They are about $10-$20 at a craft store.

Definitely like the idea about the double sided tape - thank you!! We actually use it in my office for some projects, so I know I can order it through our supplier - I should have thought of that! And all of the paper will come pre-cut except for one of the insert cards, where I need to cut off a 1/4 inch from the height - and that I'm having done by a friend who is a printer (he's doing the printing and any cutting for me). Just need to make sure I can line everything up straight when assembling them.

Definitely invest in a paper cutter. I did my own invites, including the envelope liner and having a paper cutter was a life saver

Oh, and buy extra everything!

You'll more than likely screw a few up, so it's nice to have extra paper on hand :-)

I don't know how many times I went back to the paper store near my house... and every time I thought, for sure, THIS time, I have enough, lol:-)

Cardsandpockets.com  This website has all different pocket fold invites, cardstock, etc.  The great thing about them too is they are really cheap!!  They also have pre-cut invitations sixes and insert cards.  You can order samples for cheap too!!! Hope
