How can he do this?

I just have to get this off my chest. I will try to make this short... Last June my father who was supposed to attend my wedding told me that because of very serious health problems he had to cancel his trip. I was of course very sad but finally got over it and accepted the fact that he was too sick to come. I was talking to his girlfriend on the phone today and it turns out that he is perfectly fine!!! She told me that the doctor told him it was ok for him to travel, that he doesn't have anything to worry about!!! That he canceled the trip because he just did not want to go to Jamaica!!! How can he just lie to me like this...I just can't believe and can't understand why he would say or do something like this!!

Omgsh, you must be devastated! I'm so sorry you're going through this! Can you confront him and ask why he would lie to you?

And yay for his girlfriend to tell you the truth!

Oh man that sure is a doozie. I would confront him tacktfully, if you can. I sure know that if I was in your shoes I would be loosing my head.

yeah I gotta say, not the coolest move I have heard of! You need to talk to the gf and see if she would be ok with your saying she told the truth (good on her by the way!) and confront him. The bigger question at hand is really why he would do it; is he afraid of destinations? H1N1? Rumors of high crime rate in Jamaica? Perhaps his fears are based in myth and a discussion would put his fears to rest.

I cannot imagine my dad not at my wedding. I don't know what I would do. I would definitely say something if you can.

this is pretty bad im sure you feel hurt.if he had been honest with you from day 1 you could have dealt with it and got over it by now.i think you should speak to him otherwise it could fester and be blown out of proportion later

That is so awful! I can't imagine my parents not coming to my wedding, but then also lying to me about it. That's just terrible. You have to speak to your dad about it..maybe find out why he doesn't want to go. Sorry you have to go through that

Crazy thing is I have 2 dads (step dad I've known since I was 4 and a biological dad I finally just met this year) so you would thing at least one of them would make an effort.

Just have to tough it up and focus on all the fabulous things about your wedding. We are getting married to the men of our dreams after all.

oh, josee, I'm so sorry! What an awful thing to find out through the grapevine. Hopefully you can talk to him about this and find out why. Not sure about boundaries or your relationships, but maybe his gf can help facilitate the conversation? good luck to you!
