I defiantly won't be announcing the registry if we do decide to do one. I will just have to figure out how to not let the people going to Mexico know where we are registered at! The bridal shower sounds fun just becuase of people getting together but not for the gifts. Thanks ladies!!

We actually registered at several different places, although it's not being openly discussed. There is a link to our registry on our wedding website ... but the first thing it says is "We would much prefer your 'presence' over any 'presents." But again, we know some people will buy gifts regardless, so since we have both been on our own for years ... our first two registry picks are "Honeymoon Registries" as well as Home Depot. We are having 2 AHR ... because we have much family who will not be able to attend. We are doing one AHR where we live (he owns a bar/restaurant so we'll just do something casual there) and one AHR at my Mom and Dad's beach house. Family has already been on me about registries, so I didn't really have a choice ... even though we really don't need anything.

I'm so glad you started this thread, and so glad to see others aren't registering either!!!

We did not register, don't want to register, and our website says no gifts, we just want you to come to Mexico!

I agree, an AHR is a different thing, but we're not having one of those, and still, lots of people are telling us we really have to register...

we were torn about registering too, but like some of the other girls said the preasure from the family was too much...here is the funny part, we are telling poeple that thier "presence is present enough" and I didnt have a traditional shower, it was a cooking class asked poeple not to bring gifts! I tried to do the donation thing.. didnt work

And we are not having an AHR BUT the funny thing is our registery is almost empty... It seems like all the poeple who are not able to make it are sending us gifts to the house! So this may or may not happen to you guys, so if you register you can get stuff you want, or from a store that has a easy return policy wink.gif

Wow! I am surprised that so many people are not registering while I understand your points here is my situation. If I had a wedding here in L.A. over 3/4 of our guests would be traveling to the wedding be it from Ireland, Canada, and San Francisco. So does that mean if I had a wedding in L.A. I wouldn't register because my guests are traveling? I am not getting married for gifts, it's not about that, but they would be nice hahahah. I always assumed I would register but now you have me thinking. Also this trip is a vacation for them as well.

I do not think there is a wrong thing to do in this situation, its all personal preference. We feel if we register, people will get us gifts cause they think they need to. We do not want people who are spending the money to come to get us anything, spending the money to see us get married is already more than enough.

I also understand why people do want to register though, we are just not doing it. Neither way is right or wrong, its what you want to do.
