Long story short, the one they found is very beautiful, and since there was nothing else out there, I decided to go ahead and say yes to it. We were about to send in our deposit, but my mother had a little accident so it delayed us sending it. Meantime, I got a call back from another villa owner saying their place may be available. Now, I'm afraid to tell the caterers that we found another villa (which is bigger, on the beach, and exactly what I had envisioned) and will not be sending them money for theirs! We still want them to cater our wedding, but they have been so patient and understanding about my mother, etc.
I just don't want to piss them off! I feel so bad about this, but in the end, I want the other villa. We communicate by email, and I'm going to have to send one explaining what has happened. UGH, I dread this!
Do any of you think this is really bad of me? I plan to apologize profusely to them since they have been so nice. Any suggestions? I just hope they don't think I was lying about my mom, etc. So stressed about this!
Thanks for listening ladies!
Just to clarify - when you say you've been working with the caterers to find a private villa for your ceremony/reception, that means they're not based out of / affiliated with the one you were going to send a deposit for pre-mom issue, right? If this is the case, and you've found another villa to host your event that better suits your desires, then i wouldn't worry about it. If catering is their primary job for your event, and the helping you find a villa to host that event was a secondary thing, then in the end they are still hired to cater, just at a different location.

Now, if they are affiliated with the villa you were going to place a deposit on, they might be a little choked. In which case, i would still email them about wanting to switch venues, and see what kind of vibe you get. If they're pissy, i would move on, but thank them nicely for all their help.

At the end of the day, you know you're not lying about your mom's situation, and that's really what counts. You can't help how other people perceive what you're saying, but you can control the outcome for your beautiful day.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Joss. To clarify, the caterers will be able to cater our reception at the other villa we want. They are pretty much an "all around" business and also happened to have a villa they rent out for weddings. It was kind of an "added bonus" I guess. So, we still want to do business with them, just not the villa they provided.

I just finished sending them an apologetic email explaining everything. In talking to my FI about it, he said, "hey if they are that mad and don't want to do any business with us, there are plenty of other people out there that do". He's right, and so are you when you said I can control the outcome of our day. Thanks for your imput! It helped a lot!

I can't believe how I am suddenly stressing about things! Then again, only 5 months to go and we still don't have our venue pinned down, EEEK! I hope this all comes together soon.

Thank you again Joss! I needed to hear that!

Hey, no worries. I'm glad everything worked out in the end :)

It sounds like you're planning your wedding yourself, yeah? That sounds like a crazy amount of work with the potential for mucho stress! But sounds like you're handling well so far.

I know, right? 5 months .. craziness. Where has time gone?

Try not to get too freaked out about the time constraints! I'm sure that everything will work itselkf out and your wedding will be BEAUTIFUL! Your caterer should still be okay with doing your wedding. As long as you're upfront with them about the change of venue, but truly do express an interest in still having them cater your wedding they should be fine owith the change of plans! Good luck!

Thanks again ladies! I think they'll get over it eventually. I did apologize profusely, and told them I would still love for them to cater our wedding. I'm guessing I'll receive a response tomorrow from them.

Joss, I actually have a coordinator, but between her and 2 other people looking for a private villa for me, no one could find anything. So, I decided to take things into my own hands! Glad I did b/c I think I found the perfect place that I always envisioned.

I appreciate all your advice! It's helped me calm down a bit. Thanks god for this site some days or else I think I would lose my mind worrying! Hope you all had a great weekend!

Done:

* engagement pics

* booked trip/wedding

* purchased dress, shoes, undergarment, jewelry

* sized my wedding band

* contacted academic counselor to adjust my class schedule, so I won't have to worry about schoolwork, or even be signed up for a class during the week of our trip, a week prior, and a week following our return :) WOOHOO!!

* umm....lol...well, this is embarrassing...haha...this list SHOULD be longer...

To Do:

* find & purchase DF's wedding band

* find & purchase DF's wedding attire

* find & purchase DD's wedding attire

* find earrings

* convince DF to buy me a diamond tennis bracelet -or- toe ring wink.gif

* determine reception details (menus, entertainment, location, time limit, etc)

* lose 10 lbs. MINIMUM

* get a TAN

*do SOMETHING with my disappointing head of hair...

* purchase an adorable wardrobe for our 8-night stay :)

* determine ceremony details

* confirm our guest count

* OOT gifts

* prepare required documentation to marry

* find a sitter for our pooch

* inquire about strollers, play-pens, etc. for our baby (grandparents are being so kind to handle baby for us while we're all down there!)

* hmm...guaranteed there are several more things, but this just goes to show how big of a procrastinator I am & highlights my disorganization :P

Yikes, I took a step back to view my lists & am a bit overwhelmed by the fact that my To Do list is significantly longer than my Done list...(gulp) :)

That's too funny. I still feel that way, but thankfully the list has gotten a little longer in the last month :) I'm still looking for someone to babysit the fur babies.

OMG!! I"m such a bad mommy!! I've been so busy trying to plan this wedding.. I totally neglected my FUR BABY!!! All of my sitters will be in Cabo for the wedding!! YIKES!!!

My neighbor actually does a doggy day care.. But, She's (my neighbor) is so hyper whenever she see's my pooch, he gets super excited and starts to jump all over the place! Mind you, he only does that with her, and he's an 85 lbs pittbull.. What should I do?
