Weddings in the Dominican

Recommended Posts

So we are looking at a slightly less expensive island to get married and a lot of people have mentioned the Domincan. Coming from England, the Dominican was not seen as a good place to go but that seems the complete opposite here in Canada. Everyone seems to love it.

I guess I am asking is, should the Domincan be a contender for a lovely but more affordable wedding island?

Absolutely LOVED our Punta Cana wedding and my guests have already asked us to have an anniversary trip so we can all go back!

I didn't compare prices with other places in the Caribbean ... but I have heard that Punta Cana, or the DR in general, is a good deal for the $$$ for Canadian brides b/c of flight prices.

Less expensive compared to what?

I LOVED my DR wedding, and there was nothing 'cheaper' about it, and the island no more or less unsavory about any other I've been to.

That being said, when we were down there, we had met an English quartet that had travelled extensively and said that the resorts offered from England were not as top notch as some they had been to on other islands. They said the resorts offered in Puerto Plata weren't as nice as the ones in Punta Cana.

*shrug* Hope that helps!

Thanks Ladies.

When I say cheaper, I didn't mean it in a rude manner I promise blush2.gif. All I want is a beautiful beach so I can say I do and have it relatively affordable for as many of our friends and family to be there are possible.

Debs, I think that is an issue in the UK, the Dominican hasn't had best reviews from the UK for a while. Maybe due to resorts, I don't know.

I think if you are considering a wedding in the DR, then choose a resort in Punta Cana. Maybe the negative reviews your heard were about other areas in the DR cush as La Romana, or Puerto Plata? PC is very popular for Canada and the US. At the resorts, the employees call it Punta Canada. I also think we love it so much because it's mostly canadian & US tourists.

Maybe UK people prefer to be around more British/European tourists to make things feel slightly more "familiar"?? Know what I'm saying? Like Cultural differences maybe? I don't know. Just a thought. LOL

I don't think you'd be disappointed with PC. Like other posters said, it has the best beaches!!
