Blana-

I was considering Galveston for my wedding for the same reasons you are having it there :] I haven't the slightest clue where to start but I do know I want to try to get a beach front rental vacation home but I don't know if they allow an event like that to take place on the beach without a permit or if the owners even allow it. How is your process going? How did you find your location?

xoxo- I know a lot of people say that Galveston beaches aren't that nice but if you go outside the heavy traffic area you can find all kinds of pretty private beaches. What we did was we just drove around when we were there looking at different vacation homes. They usually have them posted on the house then we called and spoke to whomever was in charge of renting it out. I can tell you from my experience there that there is a lot of red tape with some homes. Once we started calling around we found out that Prudential and Century 21 and another place called Sand n Sea (I think thats the name) rents out homes also...So, we contacted them and they looked at their listings and found the ones that accomodated our immediate family and was on the beach. We then just asked the owners of the home if they minded us having the reception at their home and they said no. If you go to Sand N Sea they will tell you that you cannot get married on the beach...this is NOT true! Ive talked to the City of Galveston personally which was quite the task trying to get ahold of who is in charge of that but they told us the beach is that we are using which is Pirates Beach is a private beach and if the owner says we can then we can. They did say that we may need a sound permit if we get a dj and such. I dont know about all the other beaches but I do know that if anything you just would have to call the city and have it cleared through them. From what I understand it isnt a huge process. I would be more than happy to help you with whatever you need so just let me know if your having trouble getting the information you are looking for.

I will try to find a picture of the house we are using. It is absolutely gorgeous!!! We are just going to walk down to the beach for the ceremony then have the reception underneath the house where the stilts are. Prudential was great and they are letting our guests park in their lot b/c the rules for this neighborhood state only 4 cars can be there. And it sleeps both our immediate families so we are just splitting the cost between all of us which turned out to be less than 200 for each person for a week!!

Wow that sounds great! I was wondering about the parking because I saw most homes had a limit of how many cars you can park in the driveways. I think my fiance and I have decided on Galveston! Originally we were going to Puerto Vallarta but decided against it because so many of our friends and family were going to have trouble getting down there and thought staying in a local beach was a good compromise for our dream of a destination wedding :]

Blana - Galveston is so pretty if you are off the beaten path. My family used to vacation in Point Bolivar and it was always so fun. Your wedding will be beautiful!

Jenni - I live in the middle of Phoenix and work in downtown Scottsdale, but have still bought almost everything for the wedding online! As for dress shopping, make it a girls weekend and have a blast!

Side note: I have a kind of random question... I am having a BBQ AHR in Texas and don't want to spend a lot on desert. My mom suggested cupcakes from HEB. I called them and they said they could do the icing in any color with edible glitter, then I could put little flags with my logo on them if I wanted. Anybody bought 150 cupcakes from HEB before? Any comments on the quality of their cupcakes? Thanks for your opinions :)

Hi Blana,
Thanks for asking! Yes, I love the Uptown area and enjoying it...except for the heat! Boy, this heat definitely needs getting used to! wink.gif
Great news is my FI decided that he'll move down with me for about 6-7 weeks to minimize our time apart. I am so excited since this means I can enjoy TX even more and we can actively plan our wedding together instead of over phone calls and emails. :) It won't be until the end of the month, so I've got to be patient...and sadly, since my place doesn't allow dogs, we need to take our dogs to his sister's (Fargo, ND) for those weeks when he's coming to stay with me (he lives in Chicago). Quite a road trip ahead of us, but nonetheless, sooooo excited!

You can check out GALVESTON.COM: Official Website of Galveston Island, Texas Tourism & Marketing for information on rentals. My FI is a photographer and he did a few weddings at some of the hotels out there. They have some nice hotels if you want to get married at a hotel.

I am a HUGE cupcake fan. My fav cupcake place in Houston is The Dessert Gallery. They have two locations in Houston and one in Sugarland. As far as HEB, I haven't had a cupcake there but if you get them to make mini cakes I know it'll be delicious. My fav cake that they have is the white chocolate raspberry cake. It's 3 layers and it's delicious. I think they might be able to make mini cakes for you. I would recommend that you just purchase one item from the bakery before you place your oder to sample it. As far as blue frosting, I would recommend that you not do the blue b/c it stains your mouth and all of your pictures will be of people with blue mouths.

good luck to you
