Marriage License Drama!

Yours appears to be a very unique case. Not sure why you would get a DL with I am assumingyour nickname. Nowadays with all the theft, etc, everyone is sticklers for accuracy with personal documents. As for your DL the trooper is not by law supposed to take your license unless you have multiple unpaid tix or some significant issues with it, so I would pursue getting that back asap. Good luck with everything.

I had an experience kind of like that-although not dealing with my ML. The small town I grew up in issued an ID card to me when I was 11 (we were traveling out of the country or something). Anyway, because my brother and I were homeschooled we didn't have yearbooks or anything to validate identity we had to have some notarized statements from people that we were who we were.

Long story short my name got put in as "Vicki" instead of my legal name "Victoria" and I went on my merry way for the next 8 years. They didn't even catch it when my DL was issued at 16!

So when I was going to renew my DL after I moved to go to college I got up to the counter and the not so polite clerk informed me there was a warrant out due to identity fruad!!!! I've never been in any trouble in my life so it was so scary to hear that! Obviously it got cleared up but it was a nightmare to fix-all because some small town police station didn't use my name as it appeared on my birth certificate.
OMG!! What an insane story!!!!!!!! I'm glad it was all cleared up!

I don't even know why my DL was issued with Josie. I vaguely remember thinking "Josephine" was uncool when I was 16 and asking them to put Josie. It must have been someone that didn't know what they were doing....to actually fulfill the request of a silly 16 year old...but then again, I can't even remember now if that's exactly what happened!

I think the laws are different in IL. They ALWAYS take your license unless you have a bond card. It's been that way since I was little - but I agree - it sucks!

OMG, my coworker just got back from her honeymoon. She found out that the social security card that she got a few years ago as a replacement says Mellissa instead of Melissa on it, so when she changes her name, she has to either pay to change her social or start using Mellissa as her legal name, even though it was someone else's screw up!

I feel for you, and I hope you get everything sorted out.

Yeah, Josie, you're right. The laws in IL are different (just moved from Chicago last year). If you're going less than 20mph over the speed limit you either have to pay $75 cash bail or hand over your license (or bond card) til your ticket's paid. And the $ goes up from there if you're going faster. Here's a link to the IL state police site.

That happened to me once, but they re-issued it w/o an additional fee. She should call them to let them know about the mistake & hopefully they'll correct it! The hardest part for me was finding a # to the SS office where I could actually talk to a person! So not fun
