Should I get a videographer?

Recommended Posts

I have been debating this as well. I booked my photographer already and they provide a DVD slide show to show everything that happens on the wedding day. I would still like to have a video of my wedding and reception. I can't decide if I will go with the resorts videographer or if I am just going to have my father record it with his video camera. Not sure yet.

I'm having this same dilemma for a slightly different reason ... I don't think I'd actually want a video of the wedding for myself, but since we're eloping I know our families would like to see the ceremony. The problem is, because we're eloping there is nothing to film other than the 5 minutes of the ceremony and the hotel videographer charges a minimum of $370 which comes out to $74/minute! I'm just not sure I can justify that. But since we don't have guests the HD camcorder (which I'd love to have by the way) doesn't really work out for us either. I don't know, my stepdad is REALLY pushing for a video ...

Maybe you should ask your stepdad to pay for it?? hehe. You could always get the photographer to video a little before the ceremony? Not sure what your plans were for the day. I could understand how that wouldn't work as well if you are eloping...hmm...

I like the idea of having a video camera while you are finishing getting ready and then walking to the ceremony spot...or even having it catch the cute moments while you are getting your pictures taken. Having a video is a must, in my opinion.

FYI. During the ceremony, you have to see what you want to have the most, pictures or the video. Videographers tend to stand 1 foot from you for the WHOLE time. If you don't mind a videographer in all of your pictures, then keep it as it is,but you will have a lot of photographs with a video guy a few inches from you..

my video guy wasn't in the way. He is in very few pictures. I thought he did a great job of working with my photographer.

I have heard horror stories of pushy videographers. photography was definitly a much higher priority for me, so I was worried about the video guy ruining pictures. I was really happy that he didn't.

We're so close to the wedding I don't have big chunks of money to fork out! Although you definitely need someone experienced and someone who's worked w/ photogs. Alot of photogs have a videographer they normally work with which helps!

Here is Shannon's if you're leaning towards no DO NOT WATCH! You will get sucked inlike me, guaranteed!

Wouldn't that be nice! msnwink.gif He offered to send his own camcorder and tripod with us so my FI could set it all up before our ceremony, but neither of us want him to be worried about electronics setup and any difficulties right before we get married.

I talked to my FI about it last night and we'll probably break down and pay for it, but I might be bitter about it for a few hours following the initial "okay let's just do it" decision. I just really prefer photography and would rather spend more money on that if I'm going to spend more money ... hmmm maybe I'll talk to the FI and photographer about that.
