Same here! Transat cancelled to June 25th, and Sunquest as well so we lost our package with our upgraded room that we booked back in December. We were supposed to fly out on June 20th. So now we're going to the US first with US Airways, then to Mexico. On June 21st. And booked hotel separate (economy class room as apparently all the upgraded rooms are taken up which I don't understand if everyone is cancelling). Anyhoo, fixed for now!

They are taking your temperature when you arrive and leave the Cancun airport to help stop the spread of the swine flu. As for the resorts, they are at about 20% capacity across the Riviera Maya and although some have closed due to nearly no one there, others are doing whatever they can to make the guests they do have happy. The Royal in Playa offered 50% off of all spa treatments and bottles of wine. All of the attractions are now open. We talked to our driver on the way to our resort on Wed 5/6 and he was so frustrated with how this is effecting Mexico. He said that the climate in Mexico City is totally different that the beach areas.

Good luck to all of you leaving for Mexico for what I hope is a beautiful wedding in the coming weeks and months! Hopefully your travel is not still banned. But I will say that if you are considering canceling due to the swine flu...DON'T. We couldn't have asked for a better, more beautiful wedding!

I am going to post my overall review of the wedding on the Royal Playa del Carmen forum. Feel free to ask any questions you may have!

Michelle

Michelle your words are very comforting! Thanks for your insight from your recent trip. I feel so bad for the resorts and those that work for them, it is only making it harder business wise for mexico.

My MOH told me today her flight on United got canceled for our wedding July 5th!

So now she has to rebook on Frontier...which is fine and will work, but I just don't have words to describe the disgust I have for the media. It is causing so much fear in everyone! People are canceling their trips, then the flights get canceled because they dont meet occupancy! Luckily Frontier has a pretty good track record. As long as they have 10 people on board they will fly. We have 15 booked 1 day, and 6 another, so as long as 4 randoms are on board we will be good!

I am so sorry to everyone that has been affected!!! it is just terrible!!! Even though the flu is dying down...the damage is done to the travel industry and people are scared. This is the problem we will be facing in the upcoming months. Come on people, don't let fear get the best of you! Life is too short! :)

I agree!!! We would have stuck with our plans to go to Cancun, had our travel agency not cancelled their charters. We had no choice, but to book somewhere that our tour company is still traveling too. All you ladies that are going ahead with your plans to Mexico, have a magarita for me b/c I am sad I will not see Mexico again this year (maybe I can talk FI into going this winter :) Best of luck to you ladies!!!

Wow! And having to change plans so close to your date! That really stinks! Well, I see you are going to be Maui'ed. That is pretty amazing..but I am sure you had to pay a hell of a lot more than you had originally planned? huh?

My first choice was Maui! It is beautiful! You will have an amazing time! Were your guests all able to transfer to make it?

Good luck to you sweetie!

Amazingly, we only lost 4 guests. All the important people, like our family & closet friends are still able to attend. And suprisingly, we didn't have to pay more, it came out to be almost exactly what we were paying to go to Cancun, although we were staying at an all-inclusive in Cancun, so now we will have to buy all of our food/drinks (which is expensive in Maui.) Anyway, were happy, we love Hawaii, we were just looking forward to seeing that turquoise blue water in Cancun again, but like I said, maybe this winter :)

Thanks for the well wishes, we need it (we thought all these negative things with Mexico was an omen that we should't get married, so let's hope everything from here on out goes without a hitch :)

***keeping fingers crossed***

Well Ladies I sooo feel you pain and frustration. I was supposed to leave on May 2 for the Beautiful Mayan and my dream Gran Bahia Wedding. On April 28th I received a phone call from my TA stating that all Sunwing flights to Mexico were cancelled. I was a devastated mess. So I sat for over 2 hours on hold trying to find ANYTHING. Because of Conquest going under all the possible flight were full. I had 38 people to get somewhere. To top it off this was the only time that we could go. No one would be able to book time off until next year and my FI and I didn’t want to wait. Sunwing thank god added a flight to Cuba. I was able to transfer everyone over. I had 6 people book through Air Transat and they didn’t add extra flights to Cuba and they still are fighting with them to get their money back. I went from having my year long planned dream wedding to 1 day of planning and I’m soo thankful that they could do something in 1 day. It wasn’t my dream wedding by any means but it was legal. The ladies did everything possible to make it special for us. I wish you American friends on here could have that option of Cuba. I know with the DR, Bahamas’, Hawaii and Jamaica they have so many things you have to have to be married and it’s so expensive for you guests. I wish you all the best and my fingers are crossed that the travel advisory it lifted so you can have your dream weddings!! My now husband has promised on our 5th wedding anniversary we WILL be going to Grand Bahia and I will have my dream!

All the best to you all!!

i just wanted to mention that our wedding on may 23rd in puerto vallarta is still on!! only 2 out of 60 guests cancelled (and they cancelled when the media "infodemic" broke out) - were very excited and look forward to that tall glass of margarita!

even 8 children are on board, along with a 78 year old grandmother! our guests rock!

what a month?!?!?
