It actually took a while for the market to come down here like it did in other areas of the US. I'd say that just in the last few months have we seen any major changes. The problem is we are limited to two cities to look in based on my school, his job and where we'll probably make the most on resale and then in those two cities there are only a few neighborhoods we really like. So, I guess we might be a little picky. We were looking at condos at first, but prices there just haven't come down enough for us at the complex we really like. So, we are starting to look at single family homes. I'm heading out tomorrow with our agent so hopefully we find something we like!

We live about 10-15 minutes from Derby right now.

Katrina, your trip so so amazing!!! That is what I can't seem to get DH to understand - we can go other places. I have a friend doing an internship in Munich in Spetember and she will still have her apartment for Oktoberfest and she has invited us. DH doesn't want to go! Weould it be bad for me to go alone and make it a girls' week?

Kelly, good luck on the house search. It is really frustrating. I'm kind of amazed that DH and I made it through the process. We had completely different ideas of waht would make the perfect house and we both came to the realization that for our budget, we were both going to have to compromise.

Erin, I think girls week sounds fabulous! I can't believe he doesn't want to go. If it will help, I'll ship my dh to hang out with yours and I'll go with you. :)

That's part of our problem with the whole house thing too. Dh has no idea what he wants. So some things I think have a lot of potential he just flat out says no to, but then can't tell me what he'd want instead. And, I'm the one doing the initial searching because I have free time during the day, so it makes it even harder. I think he thinks the house fairy is going to come to our door one day and have the "perfect" house for us. I'm more realistic that we're going to have to do some work.

Kelly, my husband did the same thing! He didn't want to do any research and we only did 1 or 2 days of open house browsing. We probably made appointments and saw 10-15 others and they all were not right. I could see potential in some, but we didn't have a big budget to do major overhauls.

His main concern was just that we had a big yard. He said it was for the dogs but I think he just wants a riding mower. He likes new construction whereas I prefer older homes so that was a constant fight. We lucked out and got a great deal on a house he actually lived in in college. We've both always really liked the house and the seller was working in our favor since she knew him.

  • 1 month later...

Hey hey. A place for the old ladies to hang out. wink.gif

I'm SOOOO over wedding planning but I pop into some wedding related threads every once and awhile because I like giving my 2 cents (like it's needed! ha.)

Nothing has really changed in my life- no house, no babies (except a new puppy). But can I admit that DH and I did NOTHING for our year anniversary? I mean we were in Reno on a short trip with my parents, but it was not planned for our anniversary. Pretty lame, but then again I didn't really care. I didn't really enjoy planning the wedding so I don't really like fussing over stuff.

I did take a mini forum break- my apologies. My work load really picked up there for a bit so I was MIA. I made my reapperance a few weeks ago so what up girls!!

Not sure I qualify as a "long-time member"... but I am married lol ! i do not miss planning that much. I do miss all the DIY stuff as i reallly loved to be creative and do stuff - I did not know I would be good at it, and like it ! But other than that, I'm glad to finally have time for myself again ! I'm coming back home after work and I can indulge in cooking, reading, wroking out, watching TV... all things I had stopped to do since January !!! And I have tons of plans still : I still have 24 lbs to lose (I had only 14 left before the wedding, but the honeymoon tricked me !) ; all my thank you card to write and send ; my paperwork with the French consulate to complete ; my Green Card to apply for ; all my pics to sort, organize, make album with ; my wedding review (booo, bad girl) ; my taxes (I filed for an extension, who can file a tax return while planning a wedding 2 weeks after ? Not me !!) ; all my personal accounting (yeah now I'm late by a few months)... and my normal life to resume (see friends, go out dancing, prepare my next vacation, etc). Well, I don't see how I could get a post-wedding depression !

But what's for sure, I still look at bridal gowns with envy and I wish I could get married again, to rock another one of these !!!! blush2.gif

So I read the first and last page of this thread and skipped the middle- just finished reading it all.

Celina- $75 to change a name after a year? Shit. I missed that boat.

Katrina- your cruise sounds wonderful. I'm incredibly jealous. LIke JEALOUS! And your new baby nephew is a cutie. Congrats.

Kristy- you are so sweet. Now I feel really bad for being MIA!

I am just now seeing this thread.

Since our wedding, I am wishing my sister would get engaged so I can help plan hers - but I know I will be bummed if she doesn't use some of my DIY ideas from on here, lol.

Now, I am obsessed with TTC ... so that is all-consuming.

We also are trying to move to a bigger house - so it's been crazy having to always have the house spotless and never know when we'll have to evacuate the premises for a showing on a moments notice. But, we finally got an offer .. so now we are praying it goes through!

I love staying up to date with all my BDW friends ... and I love looking at planning threads and pics from new DW brides! I also love being able to offer advice and opinions in the Dominican Republic threads.

I took some time off from BDW after starting TTC - just because TTC took up all of my free time (lol, obsessing on the Fertility Friend website, etc) ... but now I am trying to chill out and love having gotten active again on BDW!!!

Love all my BDW peeps!!!
