hey ladies - i just got home about 10 pm last night from a wedding in riviera maya at the el dorado royale resort. ive made a gallery of pics i took in my spare time to share with those of you who might be interested (at the bottom of the post). it was a great trip and i cant wait to share some pics from the wedding. the bride and groom and their entire wedding party were just lovely. and so wonderful to work with. i felt very honored to be there. including the couple there were 10 people. and i got a standing ovation when i was done for the night! cheers le photographe :) im so excited about the photos. everything was wonderful. and the trash the dress a blast! i will post some next week :)

so here are some thoughts i have after going back to EDR for the second wedding and staying there again. the service was excellent! the food didnt seem as good as last time but still good. the room was nice enough. we stayed in the regular resort rooms. not the fancy ones. room service food wasnt as good as the restaurants but they were always fast and friendly.

in regards to wedding things. make sure you get there early enough to meet with the wedding coordinator a few days in advance. my couple said they had to "remind" them of the things they were promised. the resort tried to move the reception to a different location and there were a few other minor things. they also changed the time of the wedding to 30 minutes later the evening before. at like 8:00 pm. overall everything was great! the bride isnt a member of this forum and her first language is french but i will be sure and let her know about it, in case she has anything to add.

about photography. this trip reinforced some things i already knew. i met a couple who was getting married the day before my couple. i decided to go by about 15 minutes before their ceremony just to take a look at the light and set up. as i was leaving. about 5 minutes before their ceremony i passed the resort photographer. at best he was going to be there about the time the bride was due to walk down the aisle. this is the scariest part to me though - he had one camera and one lens!!! so if anything had gone wrong with his camera - no pics - at all - for the couple! im sure every photographer on this forum has adequate backup equipment. and YES ive had a camera go wacky during a wedding. and a flash! this is just FYI information about what i saw while i was there.

the second thing that came up was my second shooter got really sick. she was throwing up the day of the wedding. she was able to step in and shoot for a few hours but thats about all she could handle. i have a second shooter at all of my weddings but this really brought home to me the need to have two at destination weddings. you cant prevent everything but you sure can reduce the odds that something will happen. so really think about that when planning your destination wedding photography.

thats about all i have. im back there next year for rebeccas wedding - woohoo! (i cant remember rebeccas bdw name but maybe she will stop in here). let me know if i can answer any questions. heres a link to the gallery of pics. hope this is helpful to someone - leigh miller photography : el dorado royale
