Painting parasols?

Recommended Posts

Jacilynda:

thanks for the update! I'm also going to attempt mine this weekend I think because my family will be coming down for a visit (but really for my hair trial) :). I was also planning on using acrylic paint although i had my fiance borrow a projector from his work so I don't have to the make the stencil. I was having issues trying to figure out how to make a giant stencil when my printer won't print multiple pages for one letter. If you are easily able to make a stencil, please post because I know so many people could benefit from it. :)

Those are pretty, but I think they might be really beautiful and elegant in plain white, and save you some cash. I have photographed weddings with parasols before and they are so classy and beautiful - good instinct!

Good luck with everything!

We aren't actually carrying them. We are having one that says "Thank You" to do a photo w/ for our thank you cards, and then we're going to have one w/ our name and date, etc at the end of the aisle. We are going to have our cousin sitting there cause he is going to operate the ipod and we can put the speaker down behind the parasol We're going to use white, or off-white. Something like this:

OMG, i really love the inspiration picture. I've never run across this one in all my googling. In finished mine this weekend, thanks to a team effort on my fiance, mom, my sister's, and my part.

here is the pink parasol that we spray painted just for practice. We used one of the crappy parasols just in case the paint messed it up. Click the image to open in full size.

Mother of the Bride parasol: Click the image to open in full size.

Big G with date parasol: Click the image to open in full size.

Gracias parasol: Click the image to open in full size.

We did a parasol for the two mothers, two for our BMs, and one that says "Gracias" instead of thank you since we're getting married in Mexico. :)

How we did our parasols:

We used black shimmer acrylic paint. We used a projector on all of the parasols that have words on them. My FI then traced in pencil (not a mechanical pencil but one that had a fairly dull tip so it wouldn't break through the paper). We then traced over the pencil in a very thin Sharpie because we found it was much easier to fill in the lettering with paint when there was a dark outline as opposed to the pencil outline. My mom painted the mother parasols and I did the rest. My sister helped me a tiny bit with one of the parasols that has the big G. We have two "G" parasols.

Thank you so much! I can't wait to see how yours turn out. I was also a little bit worried about the Gracias BUT then i saw another BDWer's signature picture and it's gorgeous. I think her name is Alyssa. They are standing together on a rock outcropping type area and the sun is setting. Their parasol is lying on the ground near the camera and they are in the background. it is GORGEOUS. Their parasol has a big B on it but I figure we could maybe do something similar with our Gracias since our ceremony will be later-ish in the day.

Those are absolutely gorgeous! You guys did an amazing job! I was going to buy mine, but maybe just maybe it'll be my next DIY!! I don't know, it looks pretty hard... I didn't see where you found the parasols? Maybe it was hidden in another thread?

Thank you so much! oops! You didn't see where I got the parasols because I forgot to post that! I bought ours from Oriental Trading Company (OTC) Paper Paint Your Own! Parasols. They are called Paper Paint Your Own but have a picture of one with flowers on it.

They are sold in 12 packs. Each 12 pack costs $29.99. I will say that out of 12 we only had 5 perfect ones but 2 more that would have done in a pinch. The quality is not great but if you don't need that many then it's a pretty decent deal. I read reviews saying that they'll send you news if you call if you get defective ones so order with enough time :)
