Wedding Favors - Hand Painted Maracas

This is great! So many wonderful ideas; it's so hard to go with one idea!

mishka was discussed early in this thread. her work is gorgeous, but a lot of girls (myself included) just can't make room in their tight budgets for it.

 

i got lazy and finally put my mom to work painting mine with me. we just did silver handles and red (sparkly!) tops. they are small, so i plan on tying the escort (seating) cards to them with ribbon. so they are nothing extravagant but they will at least match my wedding colors. and my mom had so much fun painting them ... she really wanted to do *something* so it was perfect!

I'm probably going to have to do what you are doing and my color theme is red too. Do you ahev pics of the maracas so I can get an idea & were they fairly easy to do?

i don't have pics yet, but that's mostly because i haven't made the escort card hang tags yet, nor have i bought the ribbon to tie them with. as far as painting them goes, it was easy and went fairly quickly with two people, especially since it was nothing fancy (just solid color). that is, it went fast once we figured out how we were going to stand them up so they could dry, lol! (fyi: we used an egg carton to stand them in after painting the handles, and then used a shoe box with holes punched in it to hold them after painting the tops). the red covered very well, but my mom insisted on a second coat of the red glitter.

i will try to remember to take some pics, even if it is with a fake tag for now. they are nothing wonderful ... i kinda feel bad that i took the lazy way out ... i was originally all excited for doing some serious hand-painting, lol.

Yes, it's definitely worth thinking of the hassle and/or expensive of getting them down there when factoring in price differences.

here's the promised pic. i still don't have the tags done but wanted to give you an idea how it turned out. i still feel like such a slacker for not painting a design (the flower design in my siggy) like i originally planned. maybe i'll feel better about them when i add the tags? haha right now they look christmassy lol.

 

They look great! Wow I cannot believe those are the same maracas from OTC......good job!! I got lazy and didnt get them but now seeing yours I wish I did LOL!!!
