Recession pondering

Recommended Posts

So the recession has already managed to influence my DW, mainly in the fact no one wants to spent the money and come, By my dad mentioned something which made we feel some form of optimism

He read an article that cruises are now drastically lowering their prices to get people to still sign up, and thinks resorts might do the same in the next few months. I am going to have to wait until July to book my trip for December anyway since the contracts etc for non group travel have not been arranged yet (I need 10+ ppl for a group and that is harder to achieve then I thought). I've got my fingers crossed that come July the prices will have dropped

of course, it's also possible that AirTransat won't be doing the St Maarten all inclusive vacation anymore because of cut backs...

I wish I had a crystal ball....

or a winning lottery ticket

I know what you mean!!! This recession is killing me. I paid a deposit for 10 people for a group rate but people are dropping like flies now! Hopefully the prices will drop for you. I would imagine that they would..... I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too!

I hope the price does drop down for you. And Tylersgirl.. I sure as hell hope the price for our package drops for our wedding, and DW in JA of a close friend.

I think this has helped me keep a healthy attitude about it all. Normally, I'd be sweating whether or not so and so was coming....now, I just realize times are tough, and I completely understand anyone who doesn't feel comfortable dropping money to come.

I won't be taking it personally at all. My mom is retiring in two months and if WE can't come up with enough extra wedding cash to buy her trip, she may not be there either. I know a lot of people that would kill, but she's just not a beach person anyway, and really didn't enjoy herself at my sisters DW two years ago (believe me, I know I had to take her calls. lol). It's not personal, so if it's unaffordable, she'll just focus on throwing our AHR next year and be there for our legal ceremony. Believe it or not, I'm cool with it. This is about us.

DW are cheaper than your average home wedding. It also cuts out unwanted guests. I mean in a home wedding you invite a whole lot of ppl whom you may clench your teeth when sending the invite. Some of those old friends are just ridiculous...and then of course exes tend to weasle their way into it and you end up paying extra catering costs you didnt plan for with those crasher type guests, not to mention their stupid drama. I totally think a DW is much more personal and intimate and definitely much more fun! It is an experience and something the guests who do come to will remember forever. I never heard of a BAD DW, but ive heard of raunchy home weddings going rotten. Too much receptiveness to drama at home! Better to be happy at a beach with a pina colada!

Just reading these comments I am put at ease. The only thing I have been really stressing about is whether people will book and come to celebrate with us....but as I am now embracing this day is about my FI and me! That is the reason why we are doing a DW we just want the people who really love us there! Thanks ladies for putting it all into perspective.
