Number of guests and price of wedding?

Recommended Posts

FI and myself experienced this...

When we told everyone we were getting married in Cancun, MX, everyone was coming. As time approached, our guests somehow started experiencing money issues, etc... so what we did was we invited everyone to an at home reception that took place on a Sunday and we did it from 1pm-6pm. Kind of like a co-ed shower for all the people who are attending the wedding and for those that were invited that cant make it.

I say send out save the dates and get a feel for who is going. Right away youll start to get calls and people will start talking and you can get a feel of how many will be attneding. Then when you send out your invitations, send them to the people who you think are going for sure.

Hope this helps... Good Luck

That's an excellent idea I don't know why I didn't think about that. I would feel kind of bad just excluding people that I didn't "think" would come. I'm sure folks will back out at the last minute. That's cool.

Ladies thanks for all your help. This forum is great!

We have a similar situation, guest list of about 150, but we know all those people can't and will not be coming to Jamaica and that's fine. We don't want to exclude anyone so I suggested we have a big cookout style engagement party and pass out the STD's there. Anyone who books by 3/15/10 will receive an official invite, don't see why I should send an invite to anyone who I know is not coming, waste of money to me. We also have a website that I am finishing up on to send out to everyone. I expect about

35-45 people to make it to Jamaica. Haven't made a final decision on AHR yet it depends on if we can afford it if not they were invited to the engagement party and received a STD to the ceremony in Jamaica so they weren't excluded.

I agree with Jacilynda. We invited 100 people to the DW knowing that most would not be able to come, and would only make it to the AHR. In the end we had a small party of 20 and a beautiful wedding under $3K that included, dinner, dancing, salsa lessons, and three days of bar tab, excluding our photographer, who was $5K but he was worth every dime. We didn't go with a resort because I couldn't commit to the 10 room minimum and I wasn't willing to ask my guests to pay $200-$500/night. Our ATR will be very simple, BBQ and Ipod in my mother-in-laws beautiful home.
