Hi. My daughter is getting married at the Riu Vallarta on April 22, and we, too, will be arriving on the 18th. Let's try to meet while we're there! I have no idea how many weddings they book for the same day, so it's rather frustrating trying to figure out if there's a big competition for dining times, reception places, et cetera. We have also emailed the Riu wedding coordinator and have received no reply. It's rather scary going all that way and not knowing what to expect.

Ruth, that sounds like a great idea, I would love to meet up there and also compare notes along the way. Please pass on my congrats to your daughter!! How many do you guys have booked right now?

As far as I know, they book no more than 3 wedding in a day, so lets keep our fingers crossed that there will be no problems with dining times/reception location etc.

I'm hoping that everything will run smoothly as this resort comes highly recommended in terms of weddings.

Thanks for your post, it's comforting having someone in the same boat as us!!

Cheers,

Heather

Hi, Heather. We've got about 30 people coming. There were quite a few more, but a lot had to drop out because of financial reasons. We have been to Puerto Vallarta several times, but never at this particular Riu, but I've heard it's really nice. I'm just concerned about where to have the dinner because I know nothing about the restaurants. We've tried to get the time of the wedding changed because now it's at 3:00 and we would like it later, but so far no luck. I don't know if that means they can't get a minister then or if they have other weddings scheduled. Erika had told us months ago that she would reserve the pool bar for us, but we have received no confirmation of that fact, so I don't know if it is or it isn't. My daughter is a very laid back bride, but I'm the one that's going nuts about this. How many do you have cominghuh.gif

Hi Ruth, we also have about 30 people in total coming as well. Some had to bail as well given what has happened with the economy over the last few months sad.gif

I'm a pretty laid back as well about the whole thing, but am also a little concerned as we have not been able to make any reservations whatsoever. The only thing I"m sure of is that I have a beach wedding at 5:00 pm no other details have been confirmed.

I have been trying to reserve the pool bar for weeks now to no avail, so yesterday I actually had my travel agent email the wedding coordinator directly asking for some sort of acknowledgment of the fact. Its rather frusterating, but at the same time, Celina and the other ladies have given me some relief that everything should be okay. If I hear anything back I'll certainly let you know.

I think you can use either CD's or an Ipod. But you have to pay to rent the sound system to hook either of those up to. In 2008 it was $40 an hour to rent the sound system.

Hopefully no one will get sick of these questions. If the groomsmen are wearing khaki shorts and linen shirts, will they be able to get into the a la carte restaurant for the wedding dinner or do they have to change into long pants? I don't know how strictly they enforce the dress code for reception dinners.

I don't know the answer for sure Ruth. We had one guest who wore shorts and didn't have a problem getting into the restaurants. I think if you are at the Flamingo restaurant (near the beach) they would probably be ok. If it was one of the others they might have to change. Don't quote me on this though as I'm just guessing.
