Where at in Costa Rica? We were there last august and I loved it but with flight prices I haven't found a resort that's cheap enough yet.

someone needs to tell that boy the rule: bro's before 'ho's! i'd be absolutely LIVID if that was my best friend! your fiance must be really hurt (even if he's not showing it).

Stay positive and try to avoid reading or hearing any negative remarks about what you both have decided on. You can't please everyone and in this case you don't need to. If there being negative now they may act that way on your big day so it would be better without them there any how. AVOID ALL HATERS!!! They either want to come, support, and have a goodtime or stay home and HATE!!!

Tell them that!

Oh ladies - I feel your pain! The funny thing is, my flight to Pittsburgh for a friend's wedding was more expensive than my flight to Cancun for my own wedding (so I count Pittsburgh as a Destination Wedding in that case!). Most of our invitees have been excited for a chance for vacation - but there's a good share who are either (1) telling me how broke they are or (2) completely avoiding the topic with me because they are not planning to come.

At the end of the day, it's really about you and your FI - not anyone else. It's just amazing how "free" some people feel to tell you what your choice of a DW is doing to them!

Hello all! I'm new here...and this thread really hit home for me. That is across the board. We weren't met with enthusiastic reactions either. But what everyone is saying is true; it's YOUR wedding and you have to do what is best for YOU. Good luck!smile03.gif

PEOPLE SERIOUSLY DRIVE ME INSANE......or at least, almost....

We orginally wanted to go down south to ge tmarried...we heard that many negative responses...from family and friends....that we changed our minds, booked the traditional wedding at home....(for everyone else) then, 4 month sinto planning--I was miserable...there was so much to do and Id raher cry thinking of it then do it.......so, we scrapped it...lost deposits on photographers, and decorators.....*Rotted*...then, told everyone we were going away....and we got grief again....even from our parents (who were the ones who convinced to originally go away)....I told people to jam it after awhile, really I did....lol....and now here we are, with 28 people booked...the people who truly mean the most to us, and the ones we really want there are booked.........

But yes--we went ack and forth a bit due to peoples opinions, people are too opinionated,...period.

Know the feeling....all, all too well!

I always try to preface telling people that we are doing a DW with, "While we understand that not everyone will be able to make it, either due to time or financial constriants, we have decided to get married in Jamaica, which will be a dream come true for us. Aside from our parents being in attendance, we consider everyone else who can make it to share our wedding (not to mention a fabulous vacation!) to be a gift!"

A lot of people, including my FI's sister and her husband, may not be coming, but again, we expected this and can't be upset if they are not there because we decided to do something that is not the "norm" and has such a cost associated with it. We won't be hurt if they don't attend, but would be if they blew off our AHR, which is intended to include everyone we would have invited if we had decided on an at-home wedding!

Stay calm, and don't sweat them! Just be thrilled you are marrying the man you adore in a such a fabulous place, and be grateful for those that joined you!

Christie :)
