We had dinner there on our HM. Super cool restaurant and it would an amazing place for a wedding. We took some phtoos if anybody is interested.

I'd also say that one of the downsides maybe the construction in the area that you must drive though to get to the restaurant and then also parking.

Hi Jamie,

We are getting married there on NOvember 17, 2007. The Event Sales Manager is Emma. Wonderful person! As you can see from the group policy, they have different location fees (or minimum consumption) for the terraces where the ceremony will be held. And if you want to have a private reception at the Salon, there is a minimum consumption fee of $5,000 exclusive of 10% tax and 18% service charge. At the Salon you can have amplified music like DJ. OUtside on the terraces you can only have harpist, guitarist, no amplified music. There is construction but I was told that by November there should be no heavy machinery. And in our contract they have included that they will stop the construction on the day of our wedding.

Emma is wonderful to work with. She used to be wedding coordinator at ONe and ONly Palmilla so she is also a great resource for vendors. They do require you to have a wedding coordinator since Emma is not acting as a wedding coordinator at Sunset, she is the Events Sales Manager. The restaurant is open from 5 to 10 pm. If you extend before 5 or after 10 there is a minimal charge which is really for the staff. Hope this helps.

I'm so excited. I just contacted a wedding coorsinator, as emma suggested i did so, but she may be very expensive who knows. I found her through cabo dream weddings. Her name is Georgina. I will make sure to have them include the no construction clause. I really appreciate your help ladies.

Jessica, would it be crazy to have the whole restaurant close for the event. is the space too big, or should we have a designated area?

Amanda, I would love to check ouy your pics.

Thanks again,

I'll Keep you guys posted!!!

Hi Jamie,

If you can afford it, I would "buy out" the restaurant. We want to do that but we don't have enough guests to justify the costs. I believe it is $12,500 exclusive of taxes and service charge. So it could come up to $15,000 easily.

The place can be big but with a buy out, you can play amplified music outside and pretty much do anything you want.

We only have 30-40 guests so we are having the ceremony at Terraza de Oriente and the reception at the Salon.

Just let me know if you have any more questions.

Jessica

I'm so glad to see you girls sharing information about Sunset Da Mona Lisa. It was difficult for me to find much info when we were planning our wedding. Feel free to e-mail me or post a Private Message for me, anytime you need info.

Our wedding had 40 people total and having the reception at the salon was adequately private enough. If you have the budget, renting out the place would be cool, otherwise, the salon should do it.

One piece of advice is to definitely try to get the salon, and not do the reception at the palapa. The palapa is NOT private at all, please don't let them convince you that it is. All regular restaurant patrons will have to walk right through your wedding reception in the palapa to get to the terraces.

Also, the advice I gave to Jessica regarding the construction is really important. We were promised verbally that the construction would stop during the wedding. Weird... we still heard jackhammering during the wedding... so put it in the contract!!

Hi Jessica,
My FI and I went on a scouting trip last month and fell in love with Sunset (minus the construction). We're working with our WP and wanted to do a buyout but can't justify the cost for 45-50 people. My WP was not clear on the minimum consumption and site fees. Site fees for the terrace and the salon are waived if you meet the minimum consumption, right? For your beverage, are you going to do by consumption or are you going to do one of the hourly pp bar packages? Any advice you could send my way w/b most appreciated? BTW, have you found a wedding coordinator, yet?

Hi lavalos,

We are having our ceremony at Terraza de Oriente and our reception at the SAlon so it will be private. We are not doing a buyout. Buyout I believe is $12,000 NOT including taxes! If we had a lot of people (at least 60) I would consider doing the buyout but we only have 35 adults at the most I think.

Yes the site fees are waived if you meet the minimum consumption. Minimum consumption for the Terraza de Oriente is $1000 and for the Salon $5000. To be honest I have not even been to Sunset but I saw Karla's pictures and it looked lovely. I have also been to the website and I thought it would be so romantic for a wedding. For our beverage we are doing by consumption and not open bar.

They would want you to have a wedding coordinator. I am still finalizing my plans for a wedding coordinator. Contact Emma, she is the Sales Manager and honestly you can ask her any question and she is very accommodating. Also Sunset opens from 5 to 10 pm only so if you want to have your wedding earlier and extend it beyond 10 pm they charge 300 dollars per hour.

We have it in our contract that construction will stop during our wedding. There is also no walkway to the beach according to Emma. YOu will need to rent 4x4s if you want to go down to the beach. In our case we will probably not go to the beach anymore and just have cocktails in the terrace after the ceremony and before reception.

If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask. Let me ask you-- was construction so bad? They told me they can't assure me that construction will be finished by November. Did it look like they still have a long way to go with the construction?

Best,

Jessica

Hi Jessica,

Thanks so much for clarifying the minimums/consumption fees; this makes me feel much better. The more I think about it, the more I feel like the WP we're working with isn't on point so I may be looking for someone else soon. I'll contact Emma, tomorrow, and so that I can get obtain accurate information. So the construction is an eyesore; it looks like it's in the beginning stages so a lot of it was concrete and metal. I contacted the company who's developing the property and they said planned completion would be the 1st quarter of '08. I'm sure by the time November rolls around, walls will be built so it won't look so raggedy. In all actuality, the ceremony view point is facing the opposite direction of the construction so it's not in your face, plus by the time your reception starts, it will be dark so you won't see it. Do not worry! Sunset is BEAUTIFUL and does not compare to any other site we visited so, rest assured--you've picked a perfect location! Be sure to check out the DG Lounge; it's located upstairs from the restaurant (separately owned) and is so very cool! If you're in the mood to keep the party going, guests can go upstairs for free DJ dancing. You may want to contact the owner to find out if he could reserve tables for you (I have his contact info if you want it). You may be able to find some pics online--I'll post our pics in a trip report very soon! Thank you, again! Lisa
