DREAMS PUERTO VALLARTA "thread"

Recommended Posts

We're not doing a formal Welcome Dinner because people are arriving on different days and we wanted to save the money. We will get there before any guests, so starting on the first day anyone arrives we are going to do a standing "happy hour" every evening leading up to the wedding from 5 to 7 at the Rendezvous Bar (recommended by someone else on this or some other forum). We will be there, just hanging out, and people can come or not depending on what they are doing and if they want to hang out with us/other guests. We will also use it as a chance to touch base for the evening and following day festivities. We haven't decided yet if we are going to hand out welcome bags to those that arrived that day or if we are going to leave them at the front desk/in their room. I heard there is a charge for the desk or room delivery.

FYI on the welcome bags -- We were very disappointed when we got down with our welcome bags to learn that the concierge/front desk has a policy they insist on sticking to no matter what -- they charge $3 per OOT bag to leave them in guests room OR to hand them out at the front desk. We decided it was an additional +$100 expense we didn't need and just handed them out at the welcome party or as people arrived. However, I was a little disappointed because i thought it would be so fun for people to open doors and have their bags...

Rebecca the new WC is awsome, she e-mails me back in minutes! Far more efficient than Diana, I have to say.

Ohh Im soooo nervous, it's so close!! I was trying to figure out what to do for Programs or Menu's, then I thought...do I even need them? I dunno, what is your girls take on it?

I'm thankful my fiance won a trip to PV for this upcoming week, He can scope out the scene and our video/photog Promovision.

I have learned to be a relaxed bride through all this. If something were to go wrong, heh, it's a story to tell. Hahaha I know it'll be wonderful, I can't wait!!

Any new reviews or pics?? Chow Sistas!!!

as far as i remember, rendezvous is the best place to have it - that's the lobby bar. it's usually pretty empty at night. the sports bar is empty too (ppl wake up early and go to bed early), but isn't the atmosphere you're looking for, i'm sure. the other two bars are tiny. the one by seaside grill is mostly for ppl in the pool, and the other by the beach is just a little hut. there's a swim up bar in the main pool, but i don't think you want that either wink.gif

as far as hair and makeup, you need to tell them what you want at dreams. i showed her the exact hair style that i wanted and told her that i wanted natural makeup. i didn't want to look like a drag queen, and felt it was important to look like myself. i didn't want to look at my pictures and not recognize myself.

i did menus, i thought it was a nice touch. we didn't know who the minister would be, nor did we know anything about the music, so programs were out.

I am doing a trial at Dreams and one at Blu in town. This is probably the area I am most picky about.

So far all the pictures I have seen of brides that used the Dreams salon, had a lot of make-up on that didn't look styled, meaning I am not afraid of dramatic eyes, with extended lashes I just want to look like I stepped away from the Chanel counter at Saks. And hair styles I feel I could do myself. I really want to have great make-up and still look like myself without it being caked on and want my hair to rock..... Wow doesn't every bride want that.

can't wait for your review.

Enjoy every minute of it

I am getting my hair and makeup done at the salon at Dreams... I am fortunate enough that my hair dresser is also a good friend and is a guest at the wedding (and she is a member of this forum as she is getting married next year in the Mayan!) - so with her tagging along, if it is a disaster, I will be banging on her door... LOL

In all seriousness, I have photos that I am bringing with me from my hair trial here and as far as makeup goes, if it doesn't work, I will do it myself... I will let you know though how it goes...

Hey Sarah,

I have to second your comment about Rebeca! She is amazing... I cannot wait to meet her in a couple of weeks!

We have chosen not to do programs or menus... mainly because I ran out of time and as far as the program goes, it wasn't important to me... I wanted to do a signature drink but haven't been able to get organized enough to design something for the bar - check out Lauren's stuff - it is awesome for the menus and the signature drinks!!!

I am totally excited (like almost jumping out of my skin excited!) we leave in 16 more sleeps and I can't wait to see how it all comes together!!

Sarah - we'll just miss each other... we leave to come home on the 7th...

If you could in middle of all your craziness, take pictures of the bars there you would rock.

I want it to be a small bar kind of intimate, but no frills. Everyone will be coming to the party at different times based on when they landed and if they are tired. So I want it to be very chill but also a nice location to watch the sunset....

I don't think you are able to book a reservation at a restaurant for that many people and sit for 3 hours. Which is also what I don't want.

Jenn I wish you the best on everything. I can't wait to see pictures.

Knock'em dead girl
Kathy,

Thanks for all your well wishes! I am so excited!

You will get tons of pics... we are bringing a friend of ours with us that is a photographer - he promised me 1000 pictures!!! I will get you every detail that I can... We will be there for 2 weeks so I imagine I will know the resort VERY intimately!!

Sarah,

Are you using Promovision for your video and photographer?? I am still trying to decide whether to use them for photography and am getting a little pressure from them to decide. Their pictures look good and their price is great, but they couldn't give me anyone other than WC for references and I couldn't look at pictures from a single wedding (just their portfolio). I haven't found anyone who has used them, and this makes me a little nervous. The no contract thing also makes me a little nervous.

Thanks!

Hi Sarah,

Be very cautious. I think the questions you are asking the supplier about references from brides, to look at pictures from a whole wedding and a contract are all very valid and pretty basic.

It's not only the price that matters. I am sure anybody that owns a camera can trigger the shutter and charge less than the actual market price for a professional wedding photographer. But to go from that to being a reliable wedding photographer able to provide you with a beautiful set of your memories...that is a long way to go!

You still have about 9 months to your wedding. What I would do is take my time. Go through the threads of PV wedding photographers to explore your options, get in contact with the three that you like the most within your price range and then go from there.

There are even some threads in the forum that have a compilation of PV photographers. It should take you not more than a week to figure it out. One week for 8 months of peace of mind.

I guess my whole point is that your questions are totally valid and the photographer you will trust with the memories of your lifetime should be able to answer them positively.

Best wishes!
