ROR Wedding Help

Recommended Posts

Hoping all of you past and/or future ROR brides can help!

We've decided we want to get married at ROR January 2010. I've emailed the resort to double check that they can accomodate my wedding that week. How long does it usually take for them to get back to you?

1st Question About Open Bar

When I looked at the wedding packages I noticed that you have to pay extra for an open bar for your guests. How is that possible? Isn't it an all inclusive resort? What happens if I don't get an open bar? Does no one drink for the night? Im so confused.

I see some packages have "champagne for bride & groom and wedding party...during toast ONLY"...so what happens after that? no drinking?...

2nd Question

It asks for a ceremony location...and gives the option of the beach or the gazebo. What's nicer? I always liked the beach option but all I can find pictures of is the "beach gazebo"

3rd Question

Are there any January 2010 brides out there? We are going the week of January 16th.

Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, would you say $1700 taxes incl. is a good price for January?

Hi,

I'm getting married at the ROR in 2 weeks. When you go to the RIU website and select the date you'd like it tells you if it's available or not and what times. They usually get back to you in a day or two.

Open Bar

Depends where you are having your reception. I'm having my dinner at the steakhouse and my reception at the disco. At dinner beer and wine is served (juice and soft drinks too) at the disco there is a bartender included ($200 for 2 hours). If you have your reception poolside or at the Seagrape you have to pay for bar service. Our ceremony is at the beach gazebo.

$1700 is a great price. We paid $1699 plus tax from Halifax, NS. Our guests from TO paid $1649 plus tax.

Hey I was originally going to go to Riu Palace Tropical Bay but our quoyes from Calgary are coming in around 3000.00 for 1 week so I think Im going to make the switch to Ocho Rios, even then my price is 2300.00 so I'd say your price is pretty good :) I also emailed the resort about my wedding week and they got back within 2 days only to give me a generic email that said we need to wait until march to book (thats when the new packages come out). I am looking to go there the last week of January 2010 so we can keep eachother updated :)

I really wanted to go to the RIU Palace Tropical Bay too! I was getting quotes around $2500 which is just too much to ask people to pay.

That's why I went with the RIU Ochos Rios. It looks good and judging by the site a lot of people from this forum have gone there.

Thanks for your feedback!

Hi there. We just got married in January at the ROR and it was great. I found a lot of the things that the website said were not the case. We had a group of 45. After the ceremony right on the beach there was champage for everyone at no cost to us.

We chose the beach setting for the ceremony. There is a beach gazebo or a garden gazebo. Garden is a bit of a spectacle and it would be a weird set up for your guests to see the ceremony. I wouldn't recommend it. Beach all the way! The charge for the bar is only if you have a private reception. If you book a dinner in a semi-private setting, drinks are included. We booked semi-private and got moved to the private location at no charge because of the size of our group. Wine was served during dinner. Beware of the Mammee Bay steakhouse for your dinner and what time you are eating. It is very close to the entertainment stage. You may risk hearing, bingo, the bird dance and all the kiddie entertainment duirng dinner. We had booked Mammee Bay for the wedding dinner but, again, we were moved due to the size of the group. The plantation is where we ended up. Very nice and quiet. We went to Riu Hotels & Resorts and booked our wedding online. Our credit card was never charged the $350 they said they would charge. We paid everything the day before the wedding at the resort. No matter what you put on the info sheet on the Riu website when you book your wedding day doesn't really matter. We were able to pick everything at our meeting with the wedding planner the day before. I highly recommend the steel drums during the ceremony. Beautiful touch and they play for a whole hour! Awsome! Good luck with your wedding, I hope it goes well! I'd be happy to help if you have any more q's for someone who's been there!

Hi there,
I planned on having the garden gazebo, is it not private? I notice the resort in the backroom, is it right in the middle of the resort life?

thanks in advance!
