Long engagements suck...

So my FI and I got engaged on May 4 last year (200cool.gif. We had been together, "courting" for a year and a half before that...

And I just need to vent... long engagements suck.

Most of our fights are because he needs to go home at night and doesn't want to.

...and I've got a YEAR of this crap left.

I've wanted to call the whole thing off and just go get married in the Pastor's office but noooo my FI (the great guy that he is) wants me to have a wedding. Hmph.

Long engagements suck. Avoid at all costs if possible.

I am actually enjoying my long engagement. It's such a special and exciting time for us - I wish it could go on longer! Kenny and I got engaged on Dec 1, 2007 and are not getting marrried until Dec 12, 2009.

My advice would be to try to enjoy this time and look at the positive - your upcoming wedding celebration of your union with your fiance.

You want to look back at this time fondly, not with feelings of negativity.

(It also gives you more time to save money for your wedding!)

Long engagements DO suck! lol Although we live together already (and have for over two and a half years) we got engaged on December 24th, 2006 and are getting married February 10, 2012. Yep, 2012. Engaged for a little over 5 years. I'm going to tear my hair out waiting. I have ALL these ideas and all this stuff I want to buy, and FI keeps saying "Why waste money on that now, we have over 3 years before the wedding." and I just want to go to City Hall and get it done and over with! But I do agree with Jennifer, it does give you lots of time to save (which is why we're waiting until 2012, I graduate in October 2010, so February 2012 will give us a little over a year to save ^_^)

So even though I already live with FI, I hear ya honey! lol

(I just re-read Cattie's post, Engaged for 8 and a half years? I need your secret for staying sane, because I'm about to tear my hair out! lol)

Well here's the short version.

We where originally supposed to have a big church wedding in 2002. Due to me being laid off from my job, just buying our own house a year prior, we decided to postpone. We never had reset a date. We where engaged while on our first cruise in 2000.

This past May we went on another cruise, people kept asking us if we where going to come back married. So in turn we decided what better place to get married but on a cruise! So we found a reasonable Bermuda cruise and sprung it on everyone on the cruise!

After postponing, it wasn't a huge deal to rush and get married. Now with alot of things going on in our jobs, him having horrible health insurance, we thought maybe its time to seal the deal! I guess we felt like we where already married, so it wasn't to pressing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving planning my wedding, but I will be glad when its over. I'm realizing sometimes I really hate my family, and people think the world revolves around them, not me, the bride!

I have been engaged a little over 4 years. Its a long time, but I think it was the best choice for us. We were young when we got engaged (3 days before my 18th bday!) and we have grown up a lot over the past couple of years. We have a 3 year old son and bought a brand new townhouse in 2007.

Well my FI and I have been dating for 3 years and 3 months lol We started planning our wedding early December 08 although we weren't officially engaged until 1.1.09. I moved into the house that he owns on 1.4.09, and our wedding is 11.1.09 We do things our own way. But I would definetl agree that long engagements suck (I've been engaged all of 30 days now haha). I'm just not a very patient person and I like someone mentioned I want to start making OOT bags and favors etc... I have no idea hoe you guys can be engaged for years and yearshuh.gif? You all are great, I'm waaay too impatient lol.

I can see how a long engagment sucks. as I am in one, well at least the begining stages of it.. We have been dating unofficially since late 2004/2005 and according to him it was official in 2006. We have been engaged since Sept. 10, 2008, and the wedding isn't until June 2010, and thats only because we were concerned with the weather in September for Mexico. We orginally planned for Sept 25, 2010.

If up to FI, there would be no wedding, elope at courthouse, and take a cruise afterwards.
