Not Having Flowers?

Recommended Posts

FI and I are trying to get back to the super simple beach wedding that we originally had planned on having --- we want our decoration to be the beach, the ocean and the sunset.

Everything is very neutral so far .. with a palette of brown and blue with touches of white and gold.

That being said, do you all think it would look strange if we don't have any flowers? (I may do a hair flower but that's it..)

For what it's worth, I forgot my flowers in my room. So I didn't have any until the reception. The photos were great, even without the flowers.

I don't think you need them if you don't want them.

I was thinking about parasols, but FI doesn't like them!
I am having a wedding party and they will be wearing coppery color dresses and I am having hair flowers made for them from Etsy which will be a combination of all of our colors. My hair flower will be white with blue accents.

I am not sure what people would do with their hands. When I am walking down the aisle; I think I am okay with not holding anything....

I think you'll be just fine without flowers.

Different people equate different things with weddings. For some, the cake must be fruit, you must serve alcohol and flowers are non-negotiable...and that is OK...for THEM.

But you envision your wedding differently...and that is OK, too.

For example, we are not having any fresh flowers -silks only. One of my guests was aghast when she heard. She told me "You can't have a wedding without REAL flowers!" Yes, we can. I understand that flowers are her ideal. But for me, the only must haves on my wedding day are my FI's love and God's presence. The rest is a bonus.

The beauty of a DW is that it is unique in its own right...and so it frees you from at-home wedding "must haves" and "must dos". In a tropical paradise, you are not tied to tradition, but free to celebrate YOUR DAY, YOUR WAY.

Enjoy your flower-free wedding.

I'm with you - for me, flowers are a big expense that you get little value from. I'm not having any other flowers or decorations other than my bouquet and the attendant bouquets. The Vegas chapel I'm using looks nice enough.

My feeling is on flowers is that if you have them, people might notice them for a second or two, and then completely forget them, and if you don't have them, no one would notice, especially since you're on a beach. In all the weddings I've been to, I have never noticed the presence of lack of flowers - they are a completely forgettable aspect of a wedding for me. However, I do think it would be nice to carry *something* though - One thing people look for is the bride's bouquet. A single cala lilly as suggested earliar would be lovely.

I also personally need something to do with my hands - I'll be nervous enough as it is without trying to figure out what the deal is with my hands. OTOH, I'm walking down the aisle unaccompanied - if you have someone giving you away, it's probably easier to deal with than my situation.
