I'm not from Maine, but my sister lives there. She got married in Kennebunk at the Nonantum, which was really nice. I can show you some pics if you'd like :)

I would suggest Ogunquit, that's a really nice area.

Let me know if you want me to ask my sister for more information if you have an idea of where you're looking, because I know they looked at a lot of places when they were looking.

Hello!

I'm from Portland and if I didn't have such a tie to St. John I would definitely be getting married in Maine. I have a few ideas and will think of more.

I would recommend July or August or September. August would be best. Otherwise you could be surprised by legitimately cold days or strange weather. In August the ocean is warmest, which isn't saying much, but it would be nice.

My family rents a house at Higgins Beach in Scarborough Maine every summer. That is an option: to have the ceremony on the beach and then maybe a reception at the Higgins Beach Inn. They do a lobster bake which sounds expensive at first glance but actually includes a lot. I have seen several weddings at the Inn and they always seem to be having a great time. The guests could stay at the Inn or rent a beach cottage; just google Higgins Beach rentals or realty.

For a more urban feel there are many great hotels and event places right in downtown which is on the water just not on the beach. You can do a large sailboat reception or a reception with music on a ferry boat. I have to recommend the Pomegranate Inn for accomodations because I love staying there when I go back to stay with my family.

Portland is just gorgeous in the summer. Cobblestone streets, bars, outdoor music, lobster, arts festivals, ice cream! Writing this is making me think I should have gotten married there anyway!

I don't know any specific vendors just places. Good luck and feel free to PM with any other questions.

Heather

I love Portland too! My sister used to live in Portland, but they bought a house a few years ago so they moved a little further south, I think. Portland is a really fun place to hang out.

Alyssa, I was going to post some of the pictures I took at my sisters wedding, but I realized when I looked through them that I didn't take very many because I was in it!

So I found the website for the place that she had it and they have a wedding gallery, I thought that would be more helpful for you and they do a lobster bake as well.

Here's the website:

Kennebunkport Maine Photo Albums Wedding Receptions

My sisters husband and his groomsmen got to arrive to the ceremony on a really large sailboat(I think it was a sailboat) It was really cool watching them pull up at the ceremony location.

I'll ask my sister too if she has any suggestions.
