When did you start trying on dresses?

Recommended Posts

Great thread! I am getting married in 9 months time and haven't even set foot into a bridal salon to try on dresses! In fact, I am in no hurry to do it either. Is this uncommon? I figure I'll start looking the end of February or early March which should give me enough time for the dress to come in and have alterations done.

I think that you should start looking a wedding dresses as soon as you want to. However, I do know many brides who did it too far in advance and ended up being a multiple dress bride. But, as far as rules go...I don't think there are any.

Happy dress shopping! Have fun doing it!

Having 2 dresses is definately my biggest obstacle! I'm a terrible impulse buyer... I almost bought a dress off ebay!! lol I think I'll just wait until a year before, then start.

I was a 2 dress bride - still have both of them too - so I don't know if you want my advice LOL! But I think it is never too early to start looking - just make sure you bring a camera and have someone take your picture in the dress - it's wierd but seeing the dress in the mirror on myself and then seeing a picture of me in it gave me different opinions!!

What girl wouldn't want to go and try on dresses ages in advance of her wedding! You have to have the best dress that suits you and to do that you have to try loads on ... besides, how much fun!

I ended up going to check out dresses and try on different styles in October 2008 and I don't get married until March 2010 - to be honest, we hadn't even set a date, I was just super excited about trying some dresses on! lol! Anyway, the styles that I thought I'd maybe go for seriously didn't look good and were totally not suitable for a destination wedding ... So I say, go for it, have a nosey in the shops now, who knows you might pick up a bargain! At least you won't be stressed, you have plenty of time to shop around and find that dress which is perfect for you!

Good Luck xx

I am planning on going looking in the fall. I have a few styles that I want to try on, I plan on buying whatever dress I decide in spring of 2010 my date is dec 1/10. If I wasn't losing weight right now I probably would of gone by now just to try on lol.

My advice go as early as you want and have fun!

I was really excited to start trying on dresses. I ended up looking 14 months prior to my wedding. The fourth dress I tried on ended up being "the one". I ordered my gown at the end of September and it will in at the beginning of March so it does take some time for it to come in (in my experience anyway). Happy dress shopping!! It's so fun!!
