I was wondering if anyone did their own wedding cake? One of my bridesmaids and I took a wedding cake decorating course and I thought it would be a nice touch to do my own (decorate not bake... still working on that part!) Also, has anyone been to Xcaret? I am having a catholic ceremony there at the St. Francis of Assisi church. 5 more months!!

We didn't decorate our own cake. And I doubt you'll have much luck doing it on the resort (and is it really something you want to be doing while you're there?) A place I might contact if you're really interested is the Turtle Bay Cafe in Akumal Bay. They might bake the cake for you and you can decorate it (I believe they'll deliver the cake on the wedding day too).

We went to Xcaret and we liked it. I don't remember seeing the church though, sorry.

Welcome!!!

The beach is a variety of diffferent things. The Tulum side is a little bit less rocky. Akumal side is rocky, but still plenty of fun. Our guests went swimming every day in the water. And it's BEAUTIFUL water. And then if you are really up for some adventure you can walk down the beach about 10 minutes to the abandoned hotel and their beach... which is powder soft and awesome!!

I know this question has been asked before but... I seem to remember someone saying that if you stay at tulum or akumal that you won't be able to eat or drink at the other resorts anymore- I looked at the website and don't see anything about that- we will be traveling there in early march- can anyone answer this question or has stayed there very recently? Sorry, I didn't want to have to go through over 100 posts to find the answer again. Also, any advice on ala carte dinner choice would be great- we booked at tulum for 4 nights-- and hopefully be planning our wedding for next year to occur here.

Thanks!

Hi, i'm new here. Getting married at the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum the first week of November 2009. I'm a little frustrated because I can't reserve a date until I book my trip, but no tour operators have prices yet for November 2009 (except Sunquest who just relaeased prices a couple of days ago), so I can't book my trip. I wanted to have this booked back in December, but now it is looking like it will be February. Was anyone able to reserve a date without booking their trip first?

Also, to those who recently got married, did you and your husband get the gold wristbands? What exactly did those wristbands entitle you to?

Nope, we weren't able to book the wedding until after our trip was booked either. And so I feel your pain. Don't worry, you'll be able to book very soon.

When we got married we did have the gold wristbands. It really didn't mean much honestly. Perhaps they were nicer to us? Not sure. I know that we were able to use the premier lobby computers for free... however we had premier suites anyways so I don't think that had anything to do with the gold bracelets.

Wow that was a lot of reading! What a long thread.

Hi everyone! I'm so excited, I think we've finally decided on the Bahia Principe Coba. Reading through this thread was such a huge help in making that decision.

I'm hoping to book everything in the next week or so. I can't wait to actually have the date and a location settled.

I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for everyone here :) So thanks in advance.
