Steel Drum Band / DJ Suggestions??

Recommended Posts

Hi All -

I'm knee deep in planning and am hoping that you all might have some suggestions for BOTH bands and DJ's. I'm getting married in Runaway Bay (between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios) on April 18, 2009. We're expecting approximately 100 guests and would like to plan a gathering the night before the wedding along with the wedding reception.

I am hoping to have a beach barbeque the night before with a live band (doesn't necessarily have to be steel drum) for a couple of hours. Has anyone used a band they were pleased with? The resort suggested a band but has given me several different prices and no information on the actual band.

Likewise, they've provided me with the name and phone number of a DJ for the wedding reception - however, the DJ doesn't have a website nor does he have the ability to show us any of his work. Perhaps I'm being overly cautious but I'm a little nervous booking the music for our reception based only on the resorts suggestion without any sort of sanity check. I've asked to be put in touch with couples who have used him in the past but its been weeks now and they haven't come up with anything yet.

So that brings me back to my initial question. Please feel free to share any suggestions for bands and DJ's. Thanks in advance!

And Happy Holidays!!

I am using the DJ that plays at Rockhouse and other locations, I can see if I can get a contact number for him. My fiancee has heard him play and is very confident that he has all the equipment and music that you would need, and you can provide him with a playlist.

To some extent you do have to trust the property, and it is crazy, but I've found you can't control everything at a destination wedding. Jamaica does not share our internet culture, everyone is not online nor do they have access to a computer like we do. If you can't find an alternative you can "check out" or that comes with a referral then make a playlist from your ipod or burn a CD or two with songs and have the DJ play them for your parties.

Hi I was just wondering if I could get the contact info for that DJ? I looked at your link/playlist and it seems like we have the same style. Thanks

If you could find his name or number that would be fantastic! Thanks for the suggestion!
