Bruised Tailbone?

Just wondering if any of you have any experience with this.

It's been about 3 days now that I think I have bruised my tailbone.

I'm not sure how it could hvae happened. I have been sitting a lot more than normal, vegging on the couch with DH watching movies in a slouched position. Other than that I haven't fallen or anything... The only other thing which may be TMI is that I've been pretty constipated for the past week and a bit...

It started suddenly - I think I got up and had a pretty severe ache in my butt area. It was weird. It's terrible when I stand up and sit down. At night it really bothers me when I'm sleeping, but I now am able to make ure I turn over via my stomach instead of my back.

I went to the gym yesterday to run and it was achy, but not terrible, but then afterward when I was doing errands it was hell getting in and out of the car.

It's the weirdest pain because it's not sharp, but it's an immediate ache that makes me gasp. I feel like I'm complaining a lot and it's pretty constant.

I'm totally worried now about going back to work next week.

I've been sitting on a neck rest iwth the gap at the back and that helps. I'm trying to keep off of it as much as possible.

I'm planning on going to the doctor soon.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this?

That happened to me in 8th grade and it was horrible! I can totally relate. I remember having choir class and not being able to handle the sit/stand and sing part of the class. I remember being told by the doctor that it happens to girls at puberty and also can happen when you get pregnant. Any chance you are preggers? I read online that women in the first trimester can experience this. Some women say that it's the first pregnancy symptom for them. Just a thought for you. I hope you feel better soon!

That is seriously weird... we are TTC right now, but I really think I"m going to get my period this month. I did a test this morning and it was negative. May be too early... I'll know in a few days either way. Maybe the doctor will test me with a blood test.

It's such a weird achy pain. I bet it's hard for anyone to understand unless you've felt it...

I can seriously still feel the sensation of the pain after reading your post! It's so achy and miserable. I read online that one of those doughnut pillows works well to sit on. I'm sure if you googled tail bone pain and pregnancy you would find more info. Good luck with everything!

Ok, so I went to the doctor today and it was a little traumatic frown.gif He had to put his finger up my butt smile72.gif

Basically, from inside nothing hurt so htere isn't an infection he could find. He thinks it's my sacrum which was too high up to check from inside. It was the only part that hurt. So it's higher up than the end of your tailbone.

It could be a stress fracture

It could be simply from sitting a certain way or from constipation.

"The sacrum is a large, triangular bone at the base of the spine and at the upper and back part of the pelvic cavity, where it is inserted like a wedge between the two hip bones"

He gave me an xray test to do and some kind of anti-constipation drug.

Since we're TTC, he said both were ok to do, but if I didn't want to yet, to try to just have natural stuff (prune juice) and that if when the constipation was gone it still hurts to get the xray done and they'd look into it further.

He was a sports medicine guy (i went to a drop in) and he seemed like he was a little purplexed.

I've been really careful about not sitting on it and being more gentle, so it's not as bad as yesterday but I was in the car for a while today...

It sucks! But at least I've seen someone about it.

I had something very similiar several years ago - it may be a pilonidal (sp) cyst at the base of your tailbone or a situation where the base of your tailbone doesn't totally close ( tends to be genetic and happen more to women, although not necessarily) and it collects "stuff" throughout the years. Sometimes it is instigated by an injury or just sometimes out of the blue. The dr wasn't sure which of the causes was the root of mine but it was instagated because I went down a slide with my daughter at Burger King, something I had down dozen of times before without a problem! It started for a few days as a dull ache that if I hit is just right (ie moved in a particluar way) became a sharp pain.

At any rate mine became so bad I needed surgery as it became infected- I couln't sit, stand or basically move and it became really swollen.

Te surgery just took out the infection and it hasn't bothered me again but if I sit for a long time (especially if I am slouching)the base of my tailbone can ache on occasion.

Just an idea to pursue, especially as your DR wasn't sure!
