Straw Raffia Fans vs. Bamboo Fans

Recommended Posts

Question...I see lots of brides using straw raffia fans during their ceremony. But I haven't seen anyone choosing to use bamboo fans. Just seems those raffia fans are so "common". What does everyone think of the straw fans vs. the bamboo ones? And if you considered both, was their a reason why you chose the one that you did? The bamboo fans are definitely more expensive, so I'd love to hear from anyone who chose those and what about them made the price difference worth it to you.

The straw fan:

The bamboo fan:

Thanks!

Yes it seems it's just the handle (looped vs. straight) and that the end of the bamboo fan is pointed vs. rounded on the other. Didn't know if there was a difference in the actual straw used...the bamboo one just looks a little nicer, classier, and less common and I always like to use "different" things than others do just to be more unique.

well imo, unless all of your guests have already been to a DW, the fact that you are using some type of straw fans is already unique... just because it's common to all of us on bdw doesn't mean it's common in the "real world".. just my 2 cents!

Very true. I guess with this specific product it's different for me as I'm Jamaican with lots of family and friends there (same for my FI) and so it is very common at outdoor weddings there to use those fans. Not so much as a wedding favor, but for practical purposes, they do. So that's why I thought of trying to choose a different fan than the usual. But you are right, those coming from the states won't know the difference.

  • 1 year later...

I used the collapsable wood fans from Michaels and there are 18 in a book for just over $20.00 but got a coupon from another BDW (mayanlily) and was able to save 50%. I bought two boxes and I love them bc they wont take up any space in my luggage or the guests luggage on the way home.

I am adding some ribbon to mine along with a tag that says thank you on it as well and placing them on the chair prior to the wedding on the beach.

GOod luck deciding!!
