How much input does your FI get? ;)

Recommended Posts

Hi Girls!

Just wondering what you all were doing with your FIs in terms of allowing them input into the planning process...I mean obviously it's their wedding too, but my FI is starting to drive me nuts! lol He is giving me a hard time about the colour of my bm dresses (I really, really want fuschia, my favourite colour, but he keeps saying it's tacky and inappropriate and really doesn't want me to use it), my flowers, my hair (I want an updo, he wants it down), etc etc etc! lol Isn't the bride supposed to get to pick this stuff?? I had no idea he'd be so opinionated on these details, and it's starting to drive me a little bonkers... Any input or advice would be appreciated! :)

Mine hasn't said too much at all. He has basically just let me do what I have wanted. At first he had no input at all but now since its getting closer to the wedding he has a bit more...his clothes, vows and stuff like that.

It is your day so maybe thank him for his help but remind him of that *lol*:). I would have some smart comment like "would you like to be the bride??"...*lol*. Best of luck, hope everything works out for you.

My FI is probably in between the both of yours. He definately has an opinion of how he wants things to look and feel for the wedding so he's been pretty involved in the decisions. He mostly just want it to be relaxed and layed back so it hasn't been too bad.

What I ended up doing for a lot of things was giving him two or three choices on something and then let him pick...ex: three hairstyles and then see which one he likes best. I had to tell him for a few things that it just wouldn't work. ex. my hair won't look that that girl's hair no matter what I do! and my boobs won't fit in that dress unless I get surgery!!

I can understand your frustration because you want him to be involved but at the same time it's always more difficult when there's a difference of opinion! I had to explain my reasoning for a few things too. Ex. I originally wanted my hair down as well which he was happy with, but then I changed my mind since I was worried about the wind and humidity just making my hair fuzzy. Once I explained that to him he was alright with the decision.

Try giving him choices, ya never know!

Tell him how you feel about the colors and flowers. Give him some choices he can make. Like his clothes and the groomsmens clothes and boutinere. Maybe he can be in charge of the music?

My FI started having opinions as the wedding got closer. He drove me insane. I understand it was his day too BUT he din't want to input anything productive for months then all of a sudden he was interested. I told him no go dude, youre too late lol

I agree with this. Give him some things he is in charge of and maybe he'll focus on those and not your things. Its good that he has an opinion, but he's focusing on the wrong stuff! If my FI tried to tell me what color the BM dresses should be or how I should wear my hair I'd probably just laugh at him and tell him to go pick out ties. Those are YOUR things.

Mine just stays out of it! He just told me to do whatever I want. He is going to pick out his outfit and best man's outfit for the wedding. He also approved his groom cake for the AHR. He hasn't really said that much about anything else! I say go for the flowers and bridesmaid dresses (I love the color Fuschia)...Hope that helps girl

Mine chose his clothes and his BM's clothing, he's planning our Stag & Doe, booking our limo to take us to the airport. Other than those few things, he's let me do whatever I please. He has input into everything we decide, but him and I have similar tastes. We haven't disagreed on anything really. Except that I wanted the guys to wear ties - he said to forget it. Haha.

Sounds like of like he doesn't really understand your vision for the wedding. My FI is very involved in the planning but we are both very untraditional and have the same ideas about what we want. Maybe if you show him pictures of what you are thinking of it would help him get on board with your ideas? Carla wink.gif

My FI has pretty much stayed out of it and left it up to me, although I have asked his opinion on a few things I couldn't make up my mind about. I always ask his opinion for my hair although I'm not sure why since he likes mine a certain way and I was thinking of doing it totally different.

I think my soon to be MIL has been more opinionated about what I should do than my FI, and I think she should butt out! lol

Can you comprimise? My FI and I haven't gotten down to any nitty gritty details but when I look through wedding magazines he'll say I like that dress of that hair style and we saw a movie recently where I commented on the groom's outfit and how I thought it would look good on him. I wasn't totally sold on hair down and was maybe considering an updo, but I honestly don't care that much one way or the other so if he wants me to have my hair down then so be it. Basically we're just in the brainstorming phase right now. Maybe you could give him some things to choose from after you have already narrowed down the choices or show him pictures of the bridesmaids dresses since guys are more visual?

If fuschia is your favorite color then I say put your foot down. I was at a wedding where the bride's favorite color was green and everything was green and it looked great because she was happy. At another wedding the color was purple and it looked great too!
