Sand Ceremony - pour timing?

Recommended Posts

What's the norm? Pour in the middle of the words that are spoken or do you wait until the minister finishes with the line about never seperating the grains of sand and start your pour at the end?

I can find a lot of information about the wording and options, but none of them acually say anything about starting your pour?

Thanks!!!

I'm only a month away - now it's details!!

EDIT:

Here's the words I'm using

UNITY SAND CEREMONY

Love is the eternal force of life. Love is the force that allows us to face fear and uncertainty with courage. But although you will be sharing one life, never forget you are two separate people. Cherish and affirm your differences. Love each other. Keep your commitment primary. Together you will laugh and cry, be sick and well, be happy and angry, share and grow. Grow sometimes together, sometimes separately. Oniel and Vanessa, you have sealed your relationship by giving and receiving of rings and the exchange of a kiss, this covenant is a relationship pledge between two people who agree that they will commit themselves to one another throughout their lives. Today, this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand into one, representing you Vanessa, and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be, and the other representing you, Oniel, and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be. As these two containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into individual containers, so will your marriage be.

So, does the minister come to the table with you and read this or does he stay by the gazebo with the mic?

We used almost the same wording.... We started when they said our name... "Today.. blah blah blah .... Vanessa.... and Oneil" It worked out great.

Our minister stayed where he was. Oniel is prob going to be mic'd, along with the minister, so you shouldn't have a problem with anyone hearing anything. We got the videography too... so maybe this was why Jay was mic'd... check with your resort on how they do this.

I am planning on having a sand ceremony too, but am wondering where you found your beautiful wording? Also where did you find your vases or containers to do the ceremony? I have seen some great online stores where I can order my colors of sand, but have yet to come across any nice vases that I want to use for the ceremony.. would you be able to tell me where you found all the information you need for the ceremonyhuh.gif Thanks a bunch!! So exicting! Your wedding is so close!!!

We used very similar wording. The officiant started reading and paused partway though and told us to pour the sand. It worked out really well. We weren't too sure how to do it either but it all worked out in the end. Good luck!

We got our vases at walmart. They're just plain, square vases. I actually used aquarium sand from the pet store because I was having a hard time finding pink sand. My husband used beach sand.

See thats what I was thinking... I seen some really cool contemporary vases like yours that were square and perfect.. I was thinking that I would just buy a larger middle one and have it engraved to personalize it a bit.. as for the sand I found a great website that has lots of colors of sand to choose from so I will probably buy mine online. The only I don't know of is the wording...

Micheals!!! My goodness I think I'm there getting something every weekend!!! They have really nice colored sand and a huge selection of vases too.

I found the wording on the internet....honestly there are a bunch to choose from. I kinda picked a little from each one until I got something I like.

I found some really nice vows as well. Again, made a few changes but in the end it makes for a bit of a longer ceremony. When I have time to type it all out tonight I will. The vows include the minister addressing your friends and family and them answering - I think they are beautiful. I've decided to put that part of my vows in my program, I'm also going to include the sand ceremony vows for them as well. We have 65 guests attending, I don't know if everyone will be able to hear and I really want them to be part of the moment and not straining to hear what is being said.

It takes the place of the common Unity Candle Ceremony. Basically you and your husband go to a seperate table after you say your vows and exchange your rings and kiss. You need 3 vases, 1 with a color of sand representing you - one for your husband and a 3rd empty one. Just as the vows say - when you pour your sand in together it will represent your unity. It's a very nice way of ending the ceremony and very fitting for a destination wedding.
If you google sand ceremony you will find lots more info and pics!
Good luck!
